I hope not. DeAngelo is a Jersey kid but is a small (5'11, 167) offensive defenseman who struggles defensively and has been suspended twice this season for violating the OHL's harassment, abuse, and diversity policy. He was one of the last cuts from team USA for the WJC this year.

Even without the off the ice issues, the Devils have a ton of depth and quality at D and they don't need a kid that can't play in his own end.

He's ranked anywhere between 10 and 30 on rankings I've seen.  Lou seems to always run a best player available draft.  And it seems like suspensions don't really bother him so much if he likes the player, see, e.g. Corrente and Merrill.  The article doesn't really say what precisely happened with DeAngelo, and that Sarnia is being tight lipped about it, but violating something vague sounding like the "harassment, abuse, and diversity policy" can mean anything from burning a cross on someone's lawn, to saying that n'sync was a pretty gay boy band.

Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I leave power. Good. Thank you, thank you. If you vote me, I'm hot. What? Taxes, they'll be lower... son. The Democratic vote is the right thing to do Philadelphia, so do.
How do you spot risk? How do you avoid risk? And what makes it so risky?

I'm always in favor of drafting the best available talent so I'm not opposed to taking a defenseman but DeAngelo is a guy I'd steer clear of since he's all offense and no defense. Based on what I've read and the rankings out there, I'd be more intrigued by D like Julius Honka or Roland McKeown if they were available. Like DeAngelo, the rankings seem to be a bit all over the place for these players.

re: marty's 2 year deal 2 years ago - that was just as much about the lockout as anything else and marty said as much.

as for the draft - think there's a chance that Nikita Scherbak falls?

Yea, from what I've seen, unless you pull a Patrice Cormier, Lou is willing to see passed these types of transgressions as long as the player commits to improving. Not only, that but from what I have read on the DeAngelo situation, it sounds like this was more of a PC issue than anything else (a la one of the many athletes caught up in the heat of the moment), not that I condone this type of speak. In other words, I think your N'Sync analogy is spot on and the likely parallel.

Currently leading the WHL in rookie scoring (though he is 18) with 77 points in 63 games. Craig Button most recently has him ranked 21st, Future Considerations doesn't have him in their top 30, and Hockey Prospect has him 10th, up from his previous 24th ranking. Maybe the Russian factor will play into where he eventually gets drafted though.

Most everyone is saying it is an overall weak draft aside from 1st 3-5 draftee's. After that, I'm sure no one is nhl ready. But hopefully a "relatively short term' project. Hopefully he's not another Suglobov.

Kujawinski's numbers are not bad if he's a winger.  I know Jason was saying earlier that he's a converted center or something, and indeed, his assist numbers overall in junior are awful.  But his goal scoring numbers - .5 goals per game in Y+1 after draft isn't bad.  If he can follow that up with a 40 G 40 A 60 GP sort of year, he could be someone to watch.

I want Pietila as well.  He wins faceoffs, he can kill penalties, he can play a physical game.  I think it's definitely time to see some other forwards in our bottom six.  CBGB run is definitely over.  Let's see more Josefson, Sislo, and some of these younger guys

Curious to see how much playing time Anthony gets in the playoffs.  Neither he nor Steeves really distinguished themselves down the stretch.  Steeves might just about be done...he's the oldest player on his team and he's been pretty meh in two seasons with Gatineau.

THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?
- Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

Yeah I think it'll be quiet on the UDFA front for NJ.  Unfortunately - I love UDFAs.  I see that list includes Oleg Yevenko, who I could see the Devils signing, although the blueline looks awful crowded still in Albany next year.

A heads up, Curtis Gedig and Ohio State are taking on Minnesota on the Big Ten Network.  I didn't see much of the game but I did hear one of the announcers say that Gedig would be used in a very substantial role.

Well the rules used to be different I think but now it's pretty basic - once you turn 21, you're no longer eligible for the draft, so if you haven't yet been drafted, you're a free agent once you decide to leave college.  There's also players who are eligible to be free agents if they leave college and don't sign with the team that drafted them - that'll happen on August 15th, or in rare instances, on the 4th July 1 after being drafted.
