So.. is this a dump to make room for another aquisition? Or are we just dumping salary for the sake of it? I kinda liked Tallinder.

It allows for the possibility of Zidlicky coming back, but he'd have to take a discounted deal unless someone else is moving out.

i could see Zids taking a decent discount to stay here now. At his age, NJ somewhat saved his career too and playing with Elias means a lot to him i think and i really think he wants to be here. TG is saying that he got offers but he's waiting on NJ

Why is everyone happy, defense got worse, wish we could keep Tally and dump Sal or Volch. This is just dumping salary with nothing in return. Hopefully Larsson takes the next step and we can re-sign Zid on a good contract.

The other team wants something in return. No one would want Volch or Sal, but Tallinder is a tradeable asset. Someone had to go. Expect an announcement of JJ, or Henrique, and/or Zids in the next little while.

Greene - Larsson

Salvador - Fayne

Merrill - Volchenkov

Harrold

I still don't see room for Zidlicky without a right shot moving.

It had to be Tallinder, no GM in his right mind would take on Volchenkov at 4.25M for the next 3 years when he is slowing down when the game is speeding up. And of course Salvador is the captain, and trading Fayne would barely be a cap dump and stupid because he is one of the few guys on the right side of 30 with Larsson.

Too bad the Devils had to lose Tallinder, he's very good but it's a numbers game, I don't think Lou is done yet.

Your unconditional rejection of violence makes you smugly think of yourselves as noble, as enlightened, but in reality it is nothing less than abject moral capitulation to evil. Unconditional rejection of self-defense, because you think its a supposed surrender to violence, leaves you no resort but begging for mercy or offering appeasement.

Lamoriello said this does not impact Marek Zidlicky "at this point." The GM said he'd still like to re-sign Zidlicky.

Like that it means giving someone an opportunity, but Tallinder was (and still is) an excellent defenseman.

Easy there tiger.  Tallinder is a competent to good NHL defenseman.  Duncan Keith and Ryan McDonough are "excellent defenseman".  Semantics aside, we're basically in agreement.

As people will notice with a lot of bad teams, and actually a lot of pretty good teams, a steady second pairing, or even third pairing defenseman, is not that easy to come by.  The Rangers made it to the second round of the playoffs, and could have used at least another one of those.

I like the move since we saved around $3 million in cash. Now if we could only send Volchie back to Ottawa Lou would deserve his own parade.

Volchenkov could be moved for the right forward next summer with all the terrible contracts being signed. I would love to make a Volchenkov Peverly trade.

per TG

Lamoriello said trade was made to clear a roster spot for a young D next season, but also said it's still possible they'll re-sign Zidlicky.

And who knows, he might actually show some improvement this year.

I think he would have to move Volchenkov or Salvador before he resigns Zid.

I know Anton has a NTC. Not sure if Sal does. I also think the devils think Sal is good.
