No help from the miserable Flames as they roll over and die for Philly. But nice job by Boston annihilating Ottawa 7-2. The Devils can tie Ottawa in points with a win tonight

Red Wings just lost to Tampa Bay, which means the Devils will be no worse than 3 points out of a playoff spot heading into the Olympic break

they have to get 1 or 2 points out of this Caps game

Absolute worst case scenario means we're 3 points back.  I can live with that I guess.  Hoping it doesn't happen though.

As usual for the Devils the worst case scenario happens. But 3 points out is not terrible

Boston just blew a 1 goal lead to Buffalo with 53 seconds to go, and Detroit blew a 1-0 lead with 29 seconds left.  See guys, we're not the only ones.

Great, Detroit wins in OT. Worst possible result for us. But that's pretty much the way its gone this year.

Here's the big picture.  92 points gives us an 86% chance of getting in.  15-8-0 is doable.  I have faith.

15-7-1 gets the Devils 92 points, but with the way the season's gone, they'll probably go something more like 13-5-5.

I'm not thinking about the next 23 games, I'm thinking about the next 4.  If the Devils can't come up with anything more than 6 out of 8 points, I think they should consider themselves sellers.  This team hasn't been more than three games over NHL .500 all season long.  If they want to show everyone that they're capable of going 8 over in what will be a relatively short period of time, then they have to do it starting tonight.

Devils did go 12-7-7 in their previous 26 GP leading up to the break, so it's not like 13-5-5 is out of the realm of possibility, and who knows, maybe 90 or 91 points will be enough (wouldn't want to bank on it).  But I can't get too excited about a team that can't get it going when their season's on the line, and if the Devils don't get it done in these next four, I'm not sure that Lou should feel terribly confident about them either.

re:  Detroit...yep, that's what sucks about so many teams being ahead of the Devils...having to constantly root for other teams to get the job done is rough going.

THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?
- Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

Harrold and Volchenkov will be the Devils healthy scratches on defense tonight.

Geez.. DeBoer is actually starting to make good decisions

If the wings win tonight and we lose, it'll be a 7 point deficit to make up for the final wild card. The Devils will likely be buried after tonight
