When they stop letting Gionta take them that will go a long way.

Zajac went 57%, which is ballpark for him, and they had long periods where he didn't take any

Brunner looked good. And Schneider looked good on some of his saves tonight. That's all I really got.

Not going to get too bent out of shape over this one. 1st game of the year, lots of new faces, chemistry will take some time. Penguins took advantage of the Devils defensive lapses, credit to them. A bit annoying how much this game resembled last season with all the "puck luck" going against the Devils but it's just 1 game. I can see this team struggling a bit early in the year and taking off a bit late once they get chemistry.

Really liked Clowe standing up for Salvador at the end of the 1st and Brunner with 8 shots was awesome.

Another bad game by Gionta. 0/7 in faceoffs, 0 shots, -2, defensive lapses that helped lead to goals against. Hope Josefson is in tomorrow.

Larsson had a real rough game with some costly errors but it's only game 1 of his 3rd year. I'm sure he'll keep learning from his mistakes. He's only 20.

Weird seeing Henrique intentionally taking faceoffs over Zajac at some points. Zajac finished 8/14, Henrique 1/6.

This is the thing about them controlling shot counts, they don't produce with theirs and the chances they give up in return are pretty decent.

Fear not. If this trend continues for another eight years, the law of averages is bound to kick in, and we'll finally get some luck.

Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I leave power. Good. Thank you, thank you. If you vote me, I'm hot. What? Taxes, they'll be lower... son. The Democratic vote is the right thing to do Philadelphia, so do.
How do you spot risk? How do you avoid risk? And what makes it so risky?

Yeah, I forgot these guys got paid peanuts

thats why I said they need to step it up this year...they're making good money now and are supposed to be the core of this teams future.

But they're not gonna be no Crosby

Speed is missing in so many ways.  Watching Bryce, the decision making in handling the puck is just too long and that's beside having to T it up before shooting.

When the puck gets within 30' of A-Fluery, he goes down.  They needed to get that puck up tonight which they didn't.

Zajac was playing some LW, he spent alot of time on that wall.   I have no idea what the thought process was there.   He's the only guy on the team that wins faceoffs.    Henrique is passably bad, Elias is regular bad, Lokti was awful last year (but came out a winner last night), and Gionta is the worst faceoff guy in the league.

I hate sounding like a broken record, but they are the key to our season.

They can be as good as Crosby at face offs.

Wasn't Crosby awful at faceoffs early in his career?

He should have been doing this learning in the AHL just like all the other young D that have had to pass a litmus test.  Larsson has probably cost this team more games over the course of his tenure with the team than any other single player.  He's just not a good defenseman, yet.

Pete's super-anal about handedness on the corresponding side of the ice.  Wouldn't surprise me at all if he wanted Henrique to take the faceoffs from the left dot.  After all this is the same coach that gave us Clarkson taking faceoffs on the PP for whatever rationale he had THERE.

"The Devils have high standards, that's the difference. We have a standard to live up to every year, and a couple of teams in our area don't have the standards we do." - Pat Burns

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03

seriously, sucks we had to drop the first game, but it was on the road, and good to get a bad game out of our system early. Hopefully a game that piss-poor will be rare this season. Brush it off and come back strong tomorrow in our house
