The New Jersey Devils are off to a horrendous start in their fresh NHL with no wins, three draws and three Over Time losses. In this run, they have only managed to score 11 goals but allowed a total of 21. This can be blamed on the fact that they no longer have two of their best scorers who led them to the Stanley Cup Finals a couple of seasons ago, Zach Parise and Ilya Kovulchuk.

If you do not have players that are good at scoring, you should not expect to easily win games.

The addition of Jaromir Jagr, aged 40, has added a bit of a spark as the Czech-born winger brings leadership, energy, intelligence and physical toughness both on and off the puck. His experience has been and will continue to be a key to the Devils’ campaign this year. However, he will be unable to bring them into play-off contention alone by the regular season’s end.

A player who showed us such promise during their 2012 Finals run is none other than Adam Henrique who scored multiple game winners in that very postseason. He is young, eager and talented enough to be the next big thing for this franchise. As a young player, he still needs to realize that matching his full potential will take a massive amount of dedicated time on the ice both before and after games.

Head coach Peter DeBoer led this team to familiar heights a couple of years ago but ever since then has struggled to bring out the very best in each of his players. He needs to instill his trust in them and find a way to light the fire that is begging to be ignited deep within. This is a good squad in a hockey-crazed state. The last time they won the title was back in 2003. Therefore, it is safe to say that the time has come to get back on track.
