Parise won't ever be Captain of Team USA ever again...
Probably not, but who cares. I am sure he was a fine captain. These mythical leaders that people have in their heads that give 'Any Given Sunday' speeches don't exist.
You now who the US had on their roster? Captain of the LA Kings Dustin Brown. Captain of the New York Rangers Ryan Callahan. Captain of the St Louis Blues David Backes. Veteran alternate captains in Ryan Suter and Brooks Orpik.
Do you think any of these guys needed to be lead by Zach Parise? Not getting up for the bronze medal game is the fault of everyone, and if someone didn't think the team had the right mindset, any one of the vets could have stepped up and said something or done something about it. The same ones that people here probably think would be a better captain than Zach Parise.
"The Stanley Cup has fallen from the Stars. The new millennium has its first Stanley Cup Champion, and it's the New Jersey Devils." Mike Miller calling the Devils winning the Stanley Cup.
"It goes to the captain and then there are handoffs during a skate around the ice" Mike Emrick as Scott Stevens is being presented the Stanley Cup.
