Could you clarify on the "burning bridges" comment?  And the Verizon Tower fiasco?  I have no knowledge of this stuff, really curious to hear what he did.

You never questioned why sponsors like Verizon and Panasonic left and instead we get Frank's Red Hot and Pfister Energy in it's place?  It has been written many times that JVB was not good at sponsor relations and even the new CEO acknowledged that when he first took over.

Around 2010ish the huge cylindrical LED display in the old Verizon Tower caught fire.  It was a small fire but it destroyed the display.  Since Verizon was paying for sponsorship and was in the arena it fell on the Devils to replace it.  Jeff balked and went back on the contract and demanded Verizon pay for it.  Verizon then pretty much packed it up from the arena at the end of that season and never came back.

To be fair, not every fan thinks about EVERY last aspect of an NHL franchise that isn't player-related or happening on the ice.  I'm sure a lot of fans like Devilsfan118 didn't know the exact details of what happened with the Verizon Tower.  I didn't.

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. True and yeah I shouldn't have assumed it.  It was something that I personally noticed though.

I remember seeing it gone and thinking "huh?"  Didn't know about the fire and everything else that happened afterwards.

Yeah I mean how would you feel if a sign got destroyed and the person who runs the place where the fire took place says "pay me for a new one" after you have been giving them millions of dollars for years.

JVB was a schmuck with vendor/sponsor relations.

Well, like some have said, in a lot of ways, VBK was one of us...in that he was clearly a Devil fan, cared deeply about the team and the fans, and just like we would be, he was in way over his head when it came to owning an NHL franchise, on a lot of levels.

Along the same lines, get the fvck over it. They're a sponsor, a rich one at that, nothing more, nothing less. How the fvck is this embarrassing, and why the hell do you act like it's a big deal.

Only on this forum could you find people to complain about finding a rich sponsor for a previously cash-strapped team. Talk about making a negative out of a positive (or at least, a non issue)

I dont buy that it was Lou's decision. if Lou wanted it gone under VBK, then it would have been gone. In a heartbeat.

Which it was, for at least a year or two. And that was before the 'you suck' became a flashpoint for the moralists.

"The Devils have high standards, that's the difference. We have a standard to live up to every year, and a couple of teams in our area don't have the standards we do." - Pat Burns

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03

If you or any fan has a problem with them having ads there then they would also have to take the bud light ads down too. Funny none of the you suck supporters never called for that.

The you suck supporters would only have a point if they opened an actual casino in the arena which would probably never happen.

Dude, bud light is friggen water.  I wouldn't even use it to wash my dishes let alone be worried that my kids drink it.  I would be more concerned if my kids drank Monster drinks and what not...so comparing gambling to Bud Light is kind of off kilter...

In the late 80's early 90's the Devils had TropWorld board advertising and arena giveaways sponsored by Trump Plaza/Castle which last i looked, won't be confused with Chuck E Cheese.

I just love pro-YS logic. It's amusing :P

What? What bearing does that have in that argument? I dont have a problem with ys, or gambling or alcohol ads, but how can ownership have a problem with a slightly offensive term, but not with gambling and alcohol promotion?

Gambling addiction is why my family struggled to pay bills when i was growing up. Gambling addiction lost my family a successful business. Gambling addiction is why i need to seriously consider leaving school every semester. But "you suck" has to end.

Your family's gambling issues are not the Prudential Center or NJ Devils issues.  It's their building so they can put whatever rules in they want.  If you do not like it then don't buy a ticket.

And also where are all those people who promised to boycott and protest the Devils on various forums and on Facebook over the YS chant?

Why they are still going to games.  Talk about hypocrisy.

Gambling and alcohol promotion in some shape or fashion with the Devils has been around a lot, lot longer then the YS chant. If gambling and alcohol promotion was a hot button topic for these people they'd have objected to it a long time ago. It's only now that this is an issue because they had their precious goal song and chant removed. In other words, it's pointing fingers for the sake of pointing fingers and the Devils owners gave them a target.

That's why it's funny.

Apparently arguing over integrity is a one-way street for a lot of Devils fans.

I suppose you skipped over the part where i said i dont have a problem with it. You really need to pick up some better reading comprehension. I was trying to illustrate the hypocrisy of this crusade against an innocent term to create a "family friendly" atmosphere, while simultaneously allowing industries that literally destroy lives to advertise all over the building. I dont have a problem with it. Im not handed a bud light and a funnel and sat down at a black jack table. I understand drinking and gambling are usually done in moderation. Hell, i love to do both, again, in moderation, but dont go after fans for saying the wrong thing for the sake of the kids and then promote things like that.

Youre totally missing the point. Its not that anyone has serious objection. What people are asking is why is you suck not ok, but gambling and alcohol ads are fine.

And you totally skipped TheRedStorm's part about how gambling establishments have been promoting the Devils for years.  Hell the Devils 87-88 Patrick Division mini-banner SGA was sponsored by Trump Casino down in AC and it is stamped right on there!  Fans had no problems with it for 25 years and now it's suddenly an issue because they took their precious YS chant away that has only been around since about 2007 when the YS part was started by a few fans.

Again with a lot of Devils fans hypocricy is a one-way street in their eyes.
