By all rights Cory should be 21-7 and Marty should be 7-21. Which would still leave the Devils in the exact same position as they're in now with both goalies at .500.

Would they be a playoff team with Cory playing 40 of the 50+ games so far? Probably although it'd be clear he was carrying us there with our pitiful offense and inconsistent D.

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03

Limiting opposing teams to under 25 shots for the vast majority of the season is bad defense, what are you DENSE!!!!!!!!!!!

They're inconsistent in terms of giving up QUALITY chances. 25 shots a game mean little when you give up 2-on-1's every game.

Basically every d-man not named Greene is a box of chocolates. VOLCH has probably been our second most consistent guy defensively.

There's no way of gauging these things unless you literally count every odd man rush that occurs. Scoring chances against are a pretty good indicator of how poor your team is defensively.  NJ is among the best when it comes to that

I could see how if you watched only the last 2 devils game this season you would think our defense is terrible and gives up tons of odd-man rushes.

This is total nonsense. Feel free to enlighten me on how this inconsistent defense manages to be FIFTH in goals against, with one terrible goaltender playing half the games?

A) Marty hasn't been terrible every game. Overall they've probably had good-great goaltending in 70% of the games with most of the other 30% Marty trainwrecks that don't always get helped out by the D (exhibit A Sunday).
B) They have at least two terrible defensemen in the lineup every game. At least Sal tries to play D though, Gelinas wants to be another Souray/Foster and only care about offense. Zid is usually good for one or two wtf moments per game too.
C) I did not say the D was terrible on the whole, I said they were inconsistent. They have some good games and some where goaltending nails them out.

isnt our shot diff is creeping towards 0???. we play with little margin for error. having a goal scored against us seems like a boulder being dropped on the team.  our shots for is weaker, than our shots against is good, if that makes any sense lol
