Do you honestly think Brodeur is playing Friday?
He shouldn't have played Tuesday. Cory earned both Detroit starts, but PDB gave Marty the savior go-to guy treatment yet again. And the fact that Marty really had very little to do with the Devils beating the Red Wings will elude him.
No, Cory'll play and the team'll be shut out again. Then Marty'll play and we'll roll over the Canes with a goal outburst. Then we're back to Marty leading the goalie rotation.
Yeah, if Cory gets shut out 2-0 on Friday with one of the goals being an empty netter, and Marty wins his game 4-2 stopping 16 of 18 shots where he wasn't really tested, Marty will be "the hot hand" in PDB's eyes.
dr33, most of the fans want to see the guy who gives the Devils the best chance to win, and we know who that is. I don't think too many Devils fans support Marty getting starts at Cory's expense. But yeah, I think something is going on with both Pete and Lou re: Marty, and it's making them both look bad. If Cory's recent stretch of damned-near lights-out goaltending wasn't enough to cement him as the unquestioned, clear-cut #1 goalie, then I have no idea what is. But this is quickly becoming a Mark Messier situation all over again, and it's a shame, because I thought Lou was smarter than that.
THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!
Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime? - Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.
Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.
It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.
