Rags are better short term. Long term this will hurt.

they're going for it this year, and are formidable coming out of the east. Granted I don't think they can beat anybody in the west in a long series

Go Pens! Go Bruins! :D

I'm OK with Callahan leaving the Rangers if this is true. He's their captain after all. It could backfire on the Rangers.

With Zucarello and St Louis maybe the Rangers are looking to put together the NHL's shortest line?

Perhaps we could interest them in Whitney or S. Gionta?

Or they might make a move for Gerbe.

I really doubt it.  You can count on St. Louis having at least 3 to 4 more years of very productive play.  And it's basically a certainty that he'll re-up with the Rangers after next year.  Rags are a fairly deep team, so they don't  really need the picks.

Tampa got robbed.

Long-term this doesn't hurt the Rangers one bit.  They have the players to go for the Stanley Cup and now's the time.  St. Louis could play another 4 years too and all on discount contracts a la Selanne.

Rag fans and their Captain Cally BS can go take a hike now. Good player, but way overrated because of the team he plays on and the market he plays in.

If St. Louis doesn't deliver for the Rangers that fan base will turn on him FAST.

Looks like the media has made their decision on St Louis.... Strong words

Ken Campbell @THNKenCampbell 2m

Martin St-Louis, who has been a 38-year-old baby since the Olympic announcement, gets his wish by being traded to NYR. Legend tarnished.

This is a great move for the Rangers. I don't know why they'd be upset at all. Time is now for them. Who cares about picks. Good teams don't need picks.

An older player has about as much chance as being productive as they are hitting the age wall at that age.

He's been their captain for a few years.  And Nash will fill in quite well in that role.

St.Louis to NYR makes them a threat now.

This should lead to a Tampa a losing tailspin.   Good for us.

Tough to say. St. Louis will be 39 in the offseason. It's year to year at that age, you can't predict that he'll be productive at 41-43 as very few players in NHL history have been. Next year he may turn into a 50 point powerplay specialist...then he'll be done.

Not terrible.  They could trade MSL at the deadline next year to get a 1st back.

Hopefully rangers lose some leadership and heart with this trade and don't play as well.
