Overall, this wasn't a great game by any stretch.  But they battled.  This was a true character win, and is the kind of win that sometimes gets teams going.

Great goal for little Gio, but it was absolutely Unacceptable that they didn't name Brodeur the first star and have him come out for a standing ovation. I don't care if he isn't getting traded - give the fans what they want.

Oh, and one more rant - WHY DONT THEY SHOW REPLAYS OF PENALTIES? Such an absolutely ridiculous policy at the Rock.

Nonsense. He didn't deserve any star. He was mediocre at best.

This is one of those games where I think some will see the 20 saves on 23 shots and assume Marty wasn't any good.  Goal #1 was a nice shot by Franzen, goal #3 was a deflection that Marty couldn't have done a thing about.  Not saying Marty was awesome...there weren't really any saves that were of the spectacular variety.  He was good enough, though not so good that PDB should be bringing up anything about "hot hands".  Schneider should get the next game.

THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?
- Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

Maybe, it's due to the fact that Brodeur lets in the same kind of goals over and over, but deflected or not, every goalie has to make a save on the 3rd goal. It wasn't that crazy of a redirecton. Brodeur just isn't very good when the puck changes angles.

He didn't have to make one really solid save all night. They asked him about the Alfredsson one in the post game press conference, but Alfredsson really missed that shot, and hit him square in the chest.

The "stars of the game" are about as arbitrary and pointless as can be - it's absolutely shameful that Marty wasn't brought back out for one more ovation, especially if he's traded today.  Unless he personally requested not to be brought out, he should've been the first star last night.

I believe the media votes on the 3 stars of the game.  It's not a team decision.  However, MSG should have asked that Marty be the person interviewed by Deb after the game.

It amazes me how many people just can't enjoy an incredible game and win, without feel the need to bash Brodeur for not making a save on a deflected shot or posting a shutout.

As far as the 3 stars are concerned, sports are entertainment.  The fans wanted nothing more than for Brodeur to come out one more time and take a bow.  For the entertainment aspect alone, he should have been named a star.

The media's different everywhere. Freaking Ray Emery got a star in an 0-7 game just for going all Mike Tyson on the other goalie. Our media goes by the book where tying/winning scorers always get the #1 star, even clods like Jared Boll.

I thought the attending media votes on the stars.  I know that's how it used to be in the late 90's, early 2000's.  If not them, then who makes that decision now?

Didnt see the first two periods, but the wings were forechecking the hell out of us.  lots of panic chip-outs. hell of a play by jagr chasing the puck and feeding fayne.  sweet goal and a big point swing. 3 wins in 4 games since  nice

Yeah, that's part of the reason I want him traded. He can do no right here. I'd like to see him ride out his career somewhere where he can be the shiny new toy for a couple of months.

Maybe for some here (I think he can do some right) , but I think he can do no wrong for 75% of Devils fans out there.

I would love for him to be a shiny new toy for a couple of months somewhere, but that won't happen. Around the league, it's pretty clear to what people don't want to see in NJ (management and coaching mostly). He isn't good. He isn't okay. He is bad.

Martin Brodeur has it better in NJ than he could have in any other situation in the NHL. He has started games in his hometown, he started the outdoor game, he has started 30 of 63 games when the stats say that's crazy. He faces the least amount of shots in the league, which really help his GAA (good luck bringing a .899 save percentage to any other team). Yet that still isn't enough, and he wants to be traded?

FWIW, there is no doubt that Marty is over the hill. He can still make a big save every here and there but his play has decreased dramatically for the last 3 years or so. He is not even close to the level he is playing at in the middle of the decade.

Nonetheless, there is still value in Marty because of his experience and puck-handling ability. This skill has contributed to the reason that the Devils score more for Marty

Complete falacy that marty is contributing to the devils scoring more when he's in net. Show me data where the devils have more scoring chances when marty is in net vs cory. I'll gladly eat crow if there is actually a difference.

I have watched the devils pin other teams in their own end for long periods of time and come up with nothing with both goalies, us not finishing is not because our goalie isn't moving the puck some.

Has anyone else noticed Kevin Clark announces goals at strange times? Last night, he announces the Gionta goal with :20 secs to play and the Red Wings up an extra skater and making a mad push to tie the game. Crucial points on the line. Clark couldnt wait til the final horn to announce it? He has a habit of doing this. Or, maybe I'm riled up from the trades and its just me...

We all know that. We know he's not good anymore. But Deboer plays him, and win or lose, he gets crapped on by fans and the media sticks 50 microphones in his face asking him if he's leaving or retiring. Wouldn't you want to be traded? He's not the guy here anymore and everyone knows it, so whats wrong with him wanting to see if he can contribute somewhere else?

He doesn't realize that he is still more THE GUY here than he'd be anywhere else.  He can want to go elsewhere, but I don't see it as likely, and that's what's sad.
