That's a tough competition. I think Malhotra wins it though.

Do you think Jagr cares. With an all expense trip to Las Vegas, Jagr is the big winner.

"It goes to the captain and then there are handoffs during a skate around the ice" Mike Emrick as Scott Stevens is being presented the Stanley Cup.

Moore should win. The dude lost his wife after taking a year off to take care of her. I can't even imagine what he's been through. I have mad respect for that guy.

This. It's a heartbreaking story, and the fact that he made it back to the NHL with the team he wanted to be on is great.

If Zid was fine with taking a 1-year deal last year (presumably only offered because Lou wanted some flexibility for the 2014-2015 season if young players were ready), why offer him a 2-year deal a year later?

I want Zidlicky back, but it has to be at a 1-year deal. He'd be smart to look elsewhere for a multi-year deal after the season he had, but he took a 1-year deal last year, so who knows.

Simple:  Trade Value

If Zid has a one year deal and we are out of the hunt, we get nothing in return for a pending UFA

A two year deal would garner significantly more from another team in need of a puck moving D man.

It also allow Gelinas another year to learn the game at the pro-level.

Don't get me wrong I am OK with a 1-Year deal, but if our guys are still not ready, I would rather be on the safeside and retaining our only puck moving defensemen and not have to worry about it again next year.

Disagree.

I would think a team looking to rent wouldn't want a 38/39 year old Zid's salary on their books (that's how old Zids would be on year two of a potential deal).  He'd be a perfect rental for someone, especially since so much of his salary will have been paid by the deadline.

THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?
- Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

Depends how much the contract is.  But I hear your point.

Between $5m and $6m is a lot of money, but it's only a one year deal.

Guys -  Last yr he was 4 million - 2 million salary and 2 million bonus that counts on our cap for 2014-2015.

This season he is 5.5 million - 3.5 million salary and 2 million bonus that would count on our cap for 2015-2016.

So it looks like this for Jagrs cap hit based on last contract and the upcoming one

2013-2014 - 2 million (salary from 13-14)

2014-2015 - 5.5 million (Bonus from 13-14, and salary for 14-15)

2015-2016 -- Up to 2 million based on bonuses he may or may not hit.

The other nominees aren't even in the same realm as Moore's story.  I hope he wins, but the NHL PR machine would love to give it to Jagr. I guess we will see.

Bonuses only carry over if they take a team over cap; otherwise the bonus is charged in the year it is earned.

I don't think the Devils were over cap this year so Jagr's bonus was on this years cap; no carryover.

Your unconditional rejection of violence makes you smugly think of yourselves as noble, as enlightened, but in reality it is nothing less than abject moral capitulation to evil. Unconditional rejection of self-defense, because you think its a supposed surrender to violence, leaves you no resort but begging for mercy or offering appeasement.

So Jagr got a nod for the Masterton because he prevented the Devils from hitting rock bottom this year?

How do people come up with the amount and structure of the contracts when team policy is always that terms aren't disclosed?

I'm surprised Letang isn't a finalist. Not that it matters much, since Moore has got to be winning this, no question.

I'm guessing team policy is more that they don't want to plaster the contract terms on the main press release like other teams do, but leak them through the beat writers and official NHL office records....?

I don't know, just guessing.

not too bad as long as jagr stays healthy.. if he didnt stay healthy this season not a chance we would have been anywheres close in the race

And if he doesn't stay healthy, the worst possible scenario is we have an aging Jagr on the brink of retirement trying his hand as player-coach/assistant coach. No matter what, Jagr's presence on this team is invaluable, especially with the kids we have coming up and the transition we're in. And this is coming from someone (me) who was against the signing last offseason.
