Boyfriend in college loved hockey so we went to watch Notre Dame, Blackhawks, Komets and the Indy Racers. Never could "love" an NHL team till Jersey got the franchise. Suffered through those Mickey Mouse years (stupid player from the Racers what did he know?)
What cemented me as a Devils fan for all time ... I fell in love with The Crash Line :uni:

I discovered hockey in 1993-94 when my dad got Rats tickets and asked if I wanted to go. "Sure, got nothing else to do." 3 hours later I was asking when we could go again  Anyway, Rats become Devils, so Rats fans become Devils fans!

My Dad used to take people from Ontario and Quebec to casinos in Vegas and mostly Atlantic City when I was pretty young every weekend since there were no casinos here.

I started listening to some radio stations he put on and the Devils were playing. I started to become a huge fan of the Devils and everything New Jersey. I am also a Nets fan as well.

"The Stanley Cup has fallen from the Stars. The new millennium has its first Stanley Cup Champion, and it's the New Jersey Devils." Mike Miller calling the Devils winning the Stanley Cup.

"It goes to the captain and then there are handoffs during a skate around the ice" Mike Emrick as Scott Stevens is being presented the Stanley Cup.

Pat Burns who has always been a favorite coach of mine and of course the chance to watch Martin Brodeur play goal every night is reason alone to be a fan of the Devils. Why would anyone in their right mind not want to take in a true legend in the making?

"Look Hollom, its leadership they want. Strength. Now you find that within yourself and you will earn their respect. With that respect, true discipline goes by the board." -Captain Jack Aubrey

"Right, lads. Now I know there's not a faint heart among you. I know you're as anxious as I am to get into close action. But we must bring 'em right up beside us before we spring this trap. That will test our nerve. And discipline will count just as much as courage. The Acheron is a tough nut to crack. More then twice our guns. More then twice our numbers. Been watching since 1992, when I was just old enough to really understand what was going on - meaning the offsides and everything other than putting the puck in the net - I was about 6 years old.

Bottom line: I loved the fact that the Devils never really had any superstars in the lineup ( 94-95 era ) but still found a way to win big games through nothing more than just honest, hard work.

I also really like defensive hockey. I would rather watch the Devils shut down a high flying offensive team than watch someone like Bure make a 2nd rate defensemen look like a rented retard.

Don't know what I'd do without the Red and Black. Lets Go Devils!

Everyone knows my story im sure..its come up plenty of times.. but i shall contribute anyhow :)

I was like 3 when the devils came here. My dad and his coworkers would get tickets and go and on occasion if someone couldnt go dad would take the family. I remember being at games and having know idea what was going on.. i was 3 or 4. I remember my dad getting hit in the head with a puck when i was 5...and by then i loved hockey(not cause he got hit in the head) My dad was a sports junkie..played most of them, coached most of them..so i grew up playing a lot of sports, but never hockey, but it was always my favorite to watch.

For years he had the season tix with coworkers so we went to enough games a year.. I remembr being at a playoff game during the first cup run but i did not join my dad at the parade that year...then i got "too cool" to go with dad in my teenage years(boy do i regret that) but still watched on tv with him on occasion.
Once i started driving i began bringing friends to games ..but only went to maybe 5 a year i still watched...

In 2001 i met someone and started going to a few games cause we were both interested..and got really into it again.. since college was just about over i wasnt so overwhelm,ed and had time to pay attention.

Then Luckily... I meet this great guy..and our first date is no other then a Devils game :) And now im just more addicted because i get invited to so many games and because its the only topic of conversation when entereing his familys home ..haha

Back in the 92-93 season, my dad got tickets for a game against the North Stars and it was the game that John McLean set the all-time record at the time for most games played by a Devils. Great Game, I hardly remember it though but they won 5-1. I didnt go to any games in 93-94 unfortunately. I went to a game in 94-95 against Ottawa, that I throughly enjoyed. Then I was glued to the TV during the Stanley Cup finals and the parade through the parking lot and I was hooked!!

Then I went to an Isles/Devils game when Corey Schwab fought Tommy Soderstorm and I was hooked more since then :) and since then ive been consistently watching since 94-95 and now, going to games since I'm older and I can drive myself and a friend to the games. Crazy thing, everyone at my job wants to go to a game with me..lol

Thats my story!

My dad and my younger brother are Rangers fans.

I couldn't get behind their ugly looking team when the Devils had better uniforms and a cooler name!

Besides, I couldn't root for the same team they did during that 94 series!

Back in 1989 I went to an exhibition game between the Devils & the Russian National Team, they lost but I was hooked on Hockey and always rooted for my home team! 1993-94 really sealed the deal in the run that ended with the most amazing series ever between the Devils & the Rangers!

It started for me when I moved to NJ...I had been talking to this girl online for a long time all the while I was living in TX...I didn't really care for hockey however my step brother played and so it kinda got me into watching a bit but more importantly playing the NHL games on Sega. That introduced me to Roenick when he was back with the Blackhawks.

You have GOT TO BE sh!tTING ME!!!
that's how I got into hockey also :P
seriously... the girl I was dating wayyyy back in 93 (she had one purpose in my life and that was it :P)... she was getting me into hockey and she didn't have cable TV yet so we were at her friends' house and he gets out NHL 93... and I SUCKED at it... all I could do was hit people... so lo and behold they had me try the blackhawks.. and fittingly enough I began scoring like mad with roenick in his prime (funny how many players on that team then I grew to loathe...).... and it got me into the game... they were all Devils fans... and it kinda grew and manifested over the 94 playoff run... Zelepukin scoring with 7 seconds left SEALED the deal.....

... ironically our engagment party :argh: :doh1: was the night of the Devils first Cup.... 6 months later the recaps were born so I didn't need the miserable lil woman in my life  .... and a legend was born B )

2008 NJDevs Stanley Cup Winner for best overall poster... where's my damn ring?

I grew up in Brampton, a suburb of Toronto that also spawned the legendary Mike Jefferson/Danton. With two brothers a year older and two years younger, we were fiercely competitive our whole lives, and so we each had to have a favourite team for every major sport that was different from the others' favourite teams, in order to have something else to fight about.

When I was 4 or 5 years old a friend of my father's from work had the family over for dinner, and he had three boys who were a couple years older than us. They showed us their hockey card collection, and gave us each a card. The card I was given was a Glenn Resch on the Rockies, and I decided he was my favourite player, and that was my favourite team. They became the Devils a couple years later, and I was a Devils fan.

It wasn't that big a deal being a Devils fan in Toronto in the 80s cuz the Leafs sucked so bad in the Ballard years there was nothing to cheer for (unless you count John Kordic, of course). I only got to watch the games when they played Toronto or Montreal (in French!), but all of my hockey sticker books had the Devils page filled first. Then in the magical run of 88 I got to see the Devils make it farther in the playoffs than the Leafs had my whole life!

The early 90s were spent putting up with a Penguins fan who was at my school who lorded it over me. Then there was the horror of 94, the aboslute worst moment of my sports fan life. Then 95, and the victory, the best moment of my sports fan life.

My feelings towards the home-town Leafs were always casual indifference, until they got switched over to the Devils conference. When they faced the Leafs in the playoffs all of a sudden I was an enemy in the midst of the most hockey mad town in the world. Getting it over on them twice in a row was awesome, but it was the Niedermeyer incident in 01 that made my hatred for the Leafs burn deep. The crap people were saying about Nieds faking it, and Domi not deserving to miss the playoffs blah blah blah was sickening.
