Theo Fleury appears to have suffered yet another setback in his quest to resume his NHL career.

According to a report in the Chicago Daily Herald, the Blackhawks are investigating an incident involving Fleury and two unidentified teammates outside a Columbus, Ohio night club.

A Columbus police source claims Fleury and two others were asked to leave the Pure Platinum gentleman's club by a manager between 4 and 5 a.m., and a fight between the players and club personnel ensued outside the establishment.

At least two sources claimed Fleury suffered cuts around his left eye and on his right hand. Police were called by an attendant at a gas station across the street from the club after Fleury, bleeding badly, went there to call for a taxi.

Nobody from the club pressed charges against the players, nor was a police report filed, according to a Columbus police information officer.

Hawks general manager Mike Smith he refused to confirm the allegations or comment on possible repercussions from the league against Fleury based on his history of trouble.

"In the end, if in fact something happened, we will look at it as an internal discipline matter," Smith told the Daily Herald.

"I don't have much to comment (on) here because I don't know all the facts of what happened. Without knowing all the facts, it's hard to say much on it. I've been looking into trying to find out what went on."

Fleury met with Smith at Smith's United Center office Tuesday for approximately 30 minutes. Also at the meeting was Jim Jenkins, a highly-paid sponsor assisting who travels with Fleury to assist with his recovery from substance-abuse problems. Jenkins was reportedly at the hotel during the alleged events.

According to Hawks sources, Fleury was involved in a preseason fracas at a Detroit casino there that ultimately resulted in his suspension on Oct. 8 for violating his substance-abuse aftercare program.

Fleury could face another NHL imposed suspension if the league finds any violations of his aftercare program.

The Hawks could impose their own suspension on the players involved for violating team rules, though coach Brian Sutter had no curfew in place Saturday night since Sunday was an off-day.

Fleury has just one goal in his last eight games.

I think maybe you left out some smilies there, since the "gentleman's club" is elsewhere referred to by the more common name, strip club. But I'm not good with smilies. I don't think anything good, PR wise, ever happens for pro athletes at strip clubs either.
