Why not LEAVE THE STINKING RUMOR in the thread or delet the fecker alltogether if that's what you want... to write la dee dah as the title is fine and makes good sense ... but at least leave the rumour in the thread. what the heck was the leaf rumor? and why leave your conversation without leaving the rumour? It defeats the purpose of NOT delteing it in the first place doesn't it? I mean it's even MORE irritating and stupid

Because it doesn't pertain to anything. It wasn't a rumor, it was a fake trade. The poster's friend played a trick on him apparently, telling him a trade went down that didn't go down. There's no need to keep that in the thread. People will click it, ignore the rest of it and only see "so-and-so traded to so-and-so, BREAKING NEWS TSN!!!" and think it's legit without looking into it.

If it was deemed that this was a joke being played on a poster, then why wasn't the thread deleted completely?
And if this was a fake rumour, why couldn't Sundin be allegedly traded to the Devils? That would falsely, yet more interestingly, fix our second line and speciously give us the offense needed purportedly to win in the playoffs.

C'mon Don, why delete? Fun to see what info people get and post sometimes. Perhaps "FALSE TRADE/RUMOR" could be put in the title and then locked.

The admins decided to lock the thread. The poster was duped by his friend, not another poster. I think after this, maybe we can end the discussion on this. There was no harm, no foul in what happened so why do we have to continue to dwell on it? I think we can drop it now, right?

The only reason I'm not dropping it I just wanted to know that if this happens again leave the content - I wasn't the only one who wondered what the bogus info was. AGREED no one wants it in the title, but if you save the thread - we politely request you leave the item of contention. It IS necessary if you leave the locked thread up. Because it's there... it's locked yet saved so we assume it's worth reading -- and then you just see someone getting chided and people laughing about something that NO ONE KNOWS BECAUSE IT'S BEEN DELETED... What was the point of even leaving it then
