I am so glad it was Gionta's first goal. He's my Devils MVP for the regular season and I hope the Devils playoffs. He brings so much energy to the game.

Fantastic period. A good two goal lead to end the 1st. The Devils need to keep this up if they want to be up 2 games to 0.

Great first period for the Devils! Still there are 40 more minutes to go and this is far from over. The Devils have to keep the intensity and play solid hockey.

It's sad. The Rangers outplayed the Devils that period but make two mistakes and get beat. Ozolinsh is awful. I can't believe Renney played that joker. They had their chances. They had several opportunities to shoot the puck but didn't.
They beat themselves.

The wind blew ferociously making the icy sky feel even colder. And then a few white snow flakes floated down from heaven creating a winter wonderland.

I think the Devils need a 5 on 5 goal or two. Their special teams are on fire but let's not forget about the rest of the game.

That short handed goal was very timely, the Rangers were starting to get some momentum going.
It was just predictable. They fiddled with the puck and the worst defenseman to ever lace up the skates makes one of the worst pinches. That was a huge goal. I can't understand why Renney did not play Pock instead. At least he has some hockey sense.
The one noticeable difference between the teams is that the Devils keep it simple. Look at their one power play. They get set and make a smart play at the point and boom. It's in the net. The Rangers don't do that. It's the European mentality to overskate and overpass. Everything has to be perfect. And that doesn't work in the playoffs against an experienced Cup team like the Devils.

I expected Buffalo 1-0 & up 4-0 in 2nd game to beat the Flyers, the Flyers never wanted to play them but Montreal up 1-0 in series and now winning 3-0 in 2nd game. Montreal could be the spoilers.
