Does anybody here use this program? I just started using it the other day and it has me pulling my hair out. I was able to copy two movies with no problem but now every movie I try and burn takes a year and a day. I downloaded one movie that was 1hr 20min long and it took about 20min to download to my hard drive and about another 20min to burn to a CD using Nero.

I tried to burn another movie that was 1hr 49min long and the total process was well over three hours. I have more than enough memory on here (80Gig hd and I'm only using about 10Gig) 512RAM and a AMD processor.

Is there a setting somewhere I'm forgetting about or is this what I'm getting for illegally copying movies?

RAM is probably your issue. If you are going to be doing DVD Authoring I would want at least 1GB if not more. You can never have enough RAM.

512 is an absurdly low amount of memory nowadays :P

and I thank Dell for underselling all PC's with RAM daily :)

I've been meaning to upgrade my RAM for awhile now and just haven't got around to it. I built this PC 2 years ago so almost everything is ancient in computer terms. I guess I have my reason to finally upgrade now and see if that solves the problem. :)

Ah, building your own PC... I did that once and the damn thing never worked right. My confidence as a computer geek took a huge hit because of that. :(

I've never had a problem with it to be honest. The only thing I had to replace was the floppy drive and I think I've used it a grand total of five times. I'm going to school for this stuff so I'll probably never buy another brand name computer again. The only name brand PC I ever bought was a Compaq about 5 years ago and that was the biggest mistake I've ever made.

That sucks Rowdy! I've always had success with that but this PC I have now is factory built. I just didn't feel like doing all the research for a good system and decided just to get a basic system with a warranty since I don't play any major games or do heavy graphics. Of course that warranty is up now. :(

As for RAM, rule is always "Buy as much as you can possibly afford".

gogo and I are at odds about this issue. I happen to think my store bought Dell is dreamy and he is in love with his self-made system. I can see his point. It's made specifically to his needs and I do see how smooth it runs compared to mine. I love mine though and it does what I need it to do. And when I need it to do something else, I guess I can use his. No reason to have 2 monsters in the house. That thing is so freakin' huge! :giggle:
He does have alot more issues with it at times though but it's worth the extra hassle. They are smaller inconvienences I suppose for the mammoth system it is.

For the amount of money I spent putting my computer together Dell would have charged me close to $3000. And the problems I'm running into have to do with the ABIT motherboard I went with. I've never had any problems with ABIT...but it turns out that this particular model for some reason has problems (aren't I lucky).

In any event...the problems that missparker talks about are that sometimes it takes 1-2 minutes to load windows. But once I reset the settings in the Bios it goes back to being almost instant.

It's a dual core processor machine that I put together for under $1000. I really can't complain.

I would recommend building your own maching just for the cost savings...and like I said...it wasn't because it was built wrong...it was a defective motherboard. I suppose I could replace it. But it's kind of a pain in the ass to move everything, especially the processor.

Oh and RAM...the more the better. Can never have too much.
