TORONTO (Ticker) - The Toronto Maple Leafs did not want to allow Wade Belak to test the free-agent market next summer, signing the rugged defenseman to a one-year contract extension on Wednesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Belak will make $675,000 in 2006-07.
Belak played in 55 games last season, collecting three assists and 109 penalty minutes.

Drafted 12th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in 1994, the 30-year-old Belak has recorded seven goals, 18 assists and 920 penalty minutes in 330 career games with the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames and Maple Leafs.
