Mike Eaves to Coach Devils?

Rumor on the Wisconsin Hockey board is that Mike Eaves might be your next head coach. I really, really hope that this isn't true..have any of you guys/gals heard anything about this?

I know Lou has always been a big college hockey guy, Wisconsin plays a similar style and Z Parise once declared that Mike Eaves was the best coach he had ever played for, so it wouldn't shock me.

Today I heard from reliable sources that University of Wisconsin head coach Mike Eaves is slated to take over the head coaching duties for the New Jersey Devils next season.


I think this board has learned to reject the accuracy/credibility of blogger's with "a reliable source" since Eklunds fantastic insider info during the trade deadline :rolleyes:

I won't put too much faith into trusting another hockey blogger, but for the sake of learning something, what is Eaves like? What type of system does he like to employ when he coaches? Any certain things that one should know about him?

I certainly don't mean to start anything. The link was provided on the UW message board, so I thought I'd look into it. Here's more on Eaves whose son Patrick plays for the Sens:

Eaves has recruited the #1 player in NA according to central scouting this year. The best forward and best defenseman amongst college recruits are heading to Madison...so we'll be sweating this out all summer..even if it is a rumor!

To be honest, the Badgers are the New Jersey Devils of college hockey. It would be a seemless transition for Coach Eaves. I know Rafalski still makes it back here during the offseason and Eaves has coached (with USA Hockey) or coached against several of the current Devs. I think his boys played with Gionta at BC...

I'll keep you posted if I hear anything and hope that you will do the same.

It's hard for us to know who to cheer for in your series. Dany Heatley and Brian Rafalski both played at Wisconsin. Good luck!

Not worrying who will be the next coach of the Devils. It is time to worry about THIS season and the playoff run the Devils are doing right now. We have all off season to worry about who will be the next coach of the Devils. :evil:

Eaves will not be the next coach if Pat Burns gets his medical clearance. Lou must know that Burnsy will be cleared for next season so I think Burns will be back coaching the Devils next season. :koolaid:

Mike Eaves is likely rooting for the Sens to win...not a good thing if he's gonna coach the Devils! :P

Eaves, Habscheid or Sutter wouldn't be horrible choices. Young and all buy into a system.

Here's what I know about Mike Eaves: He's Patrick Eaves' dad.


I watched him play alot (long time ago) when I lived in Tulsa okla. He was a mamber of Oklahoma City Blazers with Dino Cicerelli. Very Parise like IMO. His younger brother, Murray, played for Tulsa drafted by the losepeg jets. He was a pp specialist. He knows his sh.t about this game. Does that translate into coaching i nthe nhl??
