VILI SOPANEN

Posted Image

Left wing, Pelicans Lahti (SM-Liiga)
Ranked: #72 European skater by Central Scouting

Sopanen will turn 20 in October. The big winger (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) has taken time to grow into his body and start applying his skills at the Jr. A level. He graduated to the SM-Liiga this past season, scoring one goal in seven games of limited ice time.

The Finnish winger is not a pure goal scorer but has improved all-around and could interest an NHL team late in the draft, because of big frame and slow, but steady rate of improvement.

There are some pretty good picks there by Lou and the Devils. Hopefully some will make the team real soon.

Matt halsichuk has the potential to be a suprise prospect.

These are all solid draft picks.

Not having the 1st rounder means we really need to get at least 3 of these prospects through.

Article about Corbin Mcpherson here:

Ex-Jesuit student chosen in NHL draft
By Victor Contreras - Bee Assistant Sports Editor
Last Updated 12:32 am PDT Sunday, June 24, 2007
Story appeared in SPORTS section, Page C10

Jesuit High School isn't known for being a hockey hotbed, but consider the Marauders represented in this year's NHL draft.

Former Jesuit student Corbin McPherson, who left the Carmichael campus after his junior year to pursue a hockey career, was a third-round draft pick Saturday by the New Jersey Devils. It is believed to be the highest draft pick of an amateur player out of Northern California.

"I think it was a surprise to a lot of people who have supported my career," the Folsom resident said by phone Saturday. "But it was a good surprise, I think."

Three? I think we'd all settle for one, realistically. Isn't it quite a rarity to get three NHL players out of one draft class?

Sorry i didnt really explain what i ment when i said bring through, i ment to have them be effective at least in the AHL.

But i do think at least 2 of them will make the NHL.

Right now i am leaning towards Mcpherson and Halsichuk.
