GDT 09/17: Phailures v. Devils

After just three days of practice, the Devils will play their preseason opener tonight against Philadelphia in Trenton (7 p.m. faceoff). Kevin Weekes will get the start in net. Jordan Parise will serve as his backup and play the second half of the game.
Head coach Brent Sutter is looking forward to seeing how the players adapt to the team's more aggressive approach in a game situation. "I just want the guys to focus on the things that we've been working on in practice the last few days," Sutter said. "But to do that and to do it right there has to be preparation involved and make sure you're ready to play. We want to play an up-tempo game and to play that you've got to have emotion and a passion for it.
G Martin Brodeur, LW Patrik Elias, C Dainius Zubrus, RW Brian Gionta, D Paul Martin and RW Jamie Langenbrunner will not make the trip to Trenton, home of the Devils' ECHL affiliate. Langenbrunner remains off the ice with an upper groin/abdominal injury and is scheduled to see a specialist in Montreal on Wednesday to help determine if he needs surgery.
The Devils' lineup for tonight's game is as follows:
Forwards:
Z. Parise-Zajac-Brylin
Pandolfo-Madden-Asham
Tallackson-Vrana-Clarkson
Rupp-Pelley-Janssen.
From Gulitti's blog
Defense:
Vishnevski-White
Matvichuk-Greene
Oduya-Rachunek.
Goalie:
Weekes
J. Parise.

Weekes starting in the first pre-season game, I wonder how Marty is feeling about that? I would've made the same move if I were Sutter, though. I'd love to be able to see how Vishnevski and Rachunek handle themelves tonight. (This game isn't streamed online by any chance, is it?)
I really hope they put some of the big-guns in the lineup this Friday @ MSG, but that's getting a little ahead of myself.
Anywho... Let's Go Devils!

Anoyne know why Gio Elias etc. etc. aren't going to the game?
To avoid injuries. They don't need to play this game. It's as meaningless as a scrimmage.

Yet the Phailures are starting virtually everyone... well i guess they figure the only way they will get saisfaction against the Devils this year is if they play them with half their players out.

Anyway, it is great to see a GDT again and GO DEVILS.

The Flyers are starting their whole team because they bought their whole team this off-season. Half the team probably doesn't even know the other half's name.

will there be a radio broadcast for this one? WFAN or something? anyone have a link if you know who will be doing it?
I'm going to follow it from CBS Sports Line.. they are usually good, they show shot charts and every stat you could think of... so when the deadly and never occuring instance comes that I can't watch a game, i follow it with that.

Agreed. CBS Sportsline also updates their game reports very quickly. Usually within a few seconds of the event happening, information is posted about that event. I have been using CBS Sportsline to follow the all different sports for the past few years.
