Last season I made my first visit to watch the Devils & you guys on this board were really helpful to me. So once again I'm asking for a favour...

I'm planning to visit in February but don't know about the new arena. Where would you recommend I get a hotel? I'm thinking about one at Newark Airport. Is the public transport system to the arena ok from there? Also, do you think I'll need a car for getting around? I know its a tricky question but last year you guys were spot on!

I'd stay in the city and take the path in if you are staying for a few days. Path drops you off two blocks from the arena

The public transportation to the arean is AWESOME. Its very easy to get there so that isnt a problem.

I live in the more central NJ, but there is a good deal of hotels in newark, i just dont know where they are, or what theyre called. You probably dont need a car to get around.

I would recommend the OP stay in Manhattan. With the dollar so weak it should be pretty reasonable. Especially in February which is the slowest month for NYC tourism.

If you decide to stay by the airport yes transit is easy. If your hotel is worth anything it will have a free shuttle to the airport and from there there are buses to Newark Penn Station that leave every few minutes and cost I believe $1.25 each way.

I would stay in a hotel in NYC specifically Manhattan, this way you can take a train directly to Newark right near the arena, also on your downtime you can check out the new NHL store.

Thanks Chaps, great advice as usual. Really looking forward to seeing the new place. Last season was amazing although my 8 year old daughter picked up some 'interesting' chants at the Rangers game!!!

Try the Radisson Martinique on Broadway you can walk around midtown and hop the path to newark penn:

If you want one specifically near the airport, you can try the Sheraton Newark:

You could also stay at the Millenium Hilton near the WTC area. That path is a straight jump to newark penn though there is less to do down there in the city....

We're coming over for the Devils' games but staying a week. Last time we did the Empire State, Statue of Liberty etc. & had a great time.
I'm sure there's plenty to keep us entertained in between games but welcome any suggestions...

They're 9 & 13 years old, although the teenager thinks she's in her 20's!

Theres alot to do in NJ, maybe you want to go to Six Flags, it has the worlds tallest rollercoaster, if thats your kind of thing.

New Jersey, and New York are both very entertaining places.

Great Adventure in February? Yilkes. OP, Great Adventure will not be open when you are here. If you cannot find something your kids will enjoy in Manhattan you are not looking hard enough.

But there is plenty to do in NYC, its hard not to be entertained.

Museum of TV and Radio is neat: http://www.mtr.org
and a must see is the Museum of Natural History: http://www.amnh.org
I happen to like the Museum of the City of New York, http://www.mcny.org

Of course if they are into art, there's plenty of places, such as the Museum of Modern Art http://www.moma.org, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, http://www.metmuseum.org, the Guggenheim, http://www.guggenheim.org and plenty more.

Take them to Soho (means "South of Houston") and the East Village too. Central Park is always worth the trip http://www.centralparknyc.org. I would also have them see Grand Central Station - its unlike any other train station in the world: http://www.grandcentralterminal.com. They have very fantastic tours of the station.

For 9 and 13 year olds, they would probably like to see the Apple store (there's one on 59th and 5th Ave and one on Prince St in Soho). They can pick up the latest iPod stuff for about half of what you would pay in the UK. And while the kids are at the Apple store, the wife can shop at great stores nearby. With the dollar in the crapper, you'll get great deals here.
