Same here Jester. I was going through their licensing area to see just how much it would be to get permission to post the articles. They start at $4 each article for personal viewing and you have to request a quote for public viewing.
I also figured out why they want the old articles pulled, anything older then 14 days is archived and you have to pay to see it.

Just wanted to point out that I read the posts on articles by Chere, (N)Єverson and Gulitti today but not the actual articles. Had they been posted in this forum, I would have read them. But I really don't have the time to leave this site and read them elsewhere. Oh well...

haha same here, the little quotes or summarizations people have been giving are more then enough. They all say the same crap anyway. Screw them, now they'll get less reads.Ditto on that. I usually read the news posts here, but rarely do i have time to hunt down each one

even if it was just 1$ an article we are used to seeing 4-5 articles a day. thats going to add up fast, 35$ a week just to post articles, half of which are by writers we don't even like.

I just got off the phone with the Star Ledger rep. She tells me that a few sentences is fine. She says the archiving reason I mentioned before is the true reason this is an issue. They can lose revenue when the whole article is posted here instead of having to pay for the archived article.
As for actually getting permission for the posting of the articles, the fee she mentioned is way beyond our means here to afford.

So the biggest problem they have is with old articles? Well perhaps the best idea might be to move all posts older than a certain date (say beyond the last 6 months to a year) out of "view" to be edited (or not), and then just edit the more recent ones.

I would hope that the Ledger has given us some sort of time frame to get this cleanup done. A mass editing of this magnitude will take quite some time...

It really comes in handy for people in the profession, searching archived records and articles to dig up some quotes and information relating to a story. It's also good for journalism students, and for people who might be researching a certain thing and need a particular article to look over. Just saying, there are lots of people who actually do purchase archived articles, I've even done it in the past when I was a journalism student.

They gave the site a clean bill of health for no violations. I am also 90% sure that the Ledger has more important things to worry about now. (ad revenue, staff layoffs).
