Seriously, what's the point of you posting in here, other than trying to piss off Mets fans? I think the thread author started the thread to get a discussion going among fellow Mets fans. What the hell do you care where the Mets are going to be in 2009 and beyond? Isn't there enough to discuss and worry about with the Yankees?

As a Mets fan I want to be able to discuss Yankees stuff too if there is something interesting going on since I follow both teams although I follow the Yankees specifically to root against them.
That's fine. It's a free country. But to start with Mike Pelfrey should make the Opening Day squad without seeing the guy make some spring starts first, and then to follow it up with that it's this year or bust...what's the point of a non-Mets fan posting that, other to antagonize? Mets fans know that there's some issues without having to have a friggin' Yankee fan point them out.

True about spring training. It's a way for managers and staff to see players in person for a few weeks but their minor league track record is a much better indicator of performance.
Also the Daily News, I think, had the Mets shopping Sosa. It seems the team wants to use Pelfrey as the 5th starter to start the year and use El Duque out of the pen and as the safety net starter.

Pelfrey pitched a solid three innings today vs. the Braves. He could very well be the 5th starter in the rotation and move Hernandez to the bull pen. Mets beat the Braves today in 10 innings 3-2 for their third win in a row after starting the preseason 0-3. Mets are 3-3 in preseason.
That's good to hear. I'd love for Pelfrey to live up to his potential, starting this season. A good spring can only help his confidence.

Well Pelfrey was great last spring though, didn't get him anywhere when he started 0-8 with an ERA of 6+ I hope he finally turned a corner with a couple of those September outings but that remains to be seen.
Sounds more like Duque's moving straight to the DL. He canceled another bullpen session today, I guess his body doesn't want to wait for September to break down this year
Then again the Mets as a team have an inordinate amount of injuries already, they've already had to apologize to a handful of opponents for not being able to send enough regulars to games
Not to jinx anything but you know things are screwy when Moises Alou's one of the five healthiest players around

Im hoping Pelfrey makes the team. He knows what is expected from him, hell get it done. Maybe even pull even with his W-L if he has a good year, go 8-8, 9-9 or even 8-10 would be good from Pelfrey.

I heard Mets are shopping Sosa and Schoewenweis (during SNY telecast of the ST game a day ago).. Not really a surprise but I dont understand what they did with Sosa.. Your assessment of Sosa's performance isn't really accurate.
He did get off to a terrific start, going 6-1 with a 2.64 ERA in his first seven starts, but then went 1-5 in his next seven starts (with an ERA of 7.00) and his overall ERA soared to 4.59. The Mets were more than justified in yanking him from the rotation.

I don't think the Mets'll be shopping Sosa or Schoenweis now that Sanchez is out for a while (predictably) and will probably start the season on the DL.

Santana pitched very well today giving up 1 run and two hits in 3 innings. He looked solid today as the Mets won in the bottom of the 9th inning to sweep Torre and the Dodgers in the preseason. Mets 5th win in a row in the pre-season.

Alou has a hernia and needed to be operated on now. It has been bothering him for sometime now and they are finally going to operate on his hernia. Alou will be out only the first month (April) of the season. He will be back in May. Better to lose Alou early in the season to rather lose him at the end of the season.

I really hope Pagan gets Alou's spot.. hes been insane in spring training so far, by far the Mets top batter at this point in spring training

I really hope Pagan gets Alou's spot.. hes been insane in spring training so far, by far the Mets top batter at this point in spring training
Spring training hitting is next to meaningless. I'd much rather look at the 150 games he played the last 2 seasons where he hit .255 with little power.

so we should pick a name out of a hat on who should take Alou's spot for the time hes out? Out of the possible replacements (Anderson, Chavez, F-Mart [too young], Pagan, Clark) I think Pagan has been most impressive
