What's the Devil fan's opinion about the Islanders?
I know my fellow Islander fans don't find the Devils rivals, but when I tell a Ranger fan that I'm a fan of both they start flipping out about how they are rivals.

My experience has been that people seem "indifferent" toward the Islanders.

Any divisional opponent can't be a friend. The only tying bond between us is Chico.
Otherwise, no. You are not a rival because you haven't been good since the eighties, and we weren't good until afterwards so it just hasn't mattered between us, but if you ever get up there again you can bet your ass my indifference will turn straight to hatred.
