Well the Rangers don't spend $7 million on a third line (and Madden-Pando doesn't even include Holik, a fourth-liner).

But actually they're pretty top heavy in salaries - they have five players making big money in Gomez, Drury, Roszival, Redden and Lundqvist and Naslund's only making around $4 million per. They also have a lot of younger players with entry-level type contracts, and the cap's been going up every year.

"The Devils have high standards, that's the difference. We have a standard to live up to every year, and a couple of teams in our area don't have the standards we do." - Pat Burns

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03

I honestly don't get it....how do the Rangers have Gomez, Drury, Redden, Naslund, Lundqvist, etc..and still have cap room, and we have....Marty. And Zach, who probably isn't even making superstar money yet.

Have you seen the rest of their team?

Their third line (forget their fourth line), depending on how they set up their team, will probably make under $3M. Their second line might contain Dawes and Callahan, who made $1M last season *combined*.

Our third line next season, will make somewhere in the neighborhood of $9-10M, depending on who the other wing is.

They are paper thin and rely on a ton of kids to fill out their roster. That's how you have all of these "name" players and still have cap room. By paying everyone else nothing.
