Hey guys, I need your help - I'm going with a friend to a Friday night game in a few weeks, and I was wondering if you knew of any good restaurants near the arena (within walking distance), for an early dinner before the game. We're both 21, but I'm not looking for a bar, more like, a nice or pretty nice restaurant. All of your suggestions and ideas are welcome

My suggestion is the Spanish Tavern on McWhorter Street in the Ironbound. Its really close to the Arena and the seafood as I recall is excellent.

Thanks, I'll definitely consider that. I'm pretty sure she's not a big fan of seafood, though but thanks again, that definitely looks nice.

Any other suggestions?

Forget the Spanish Tavern go to McWhorters, they have BBQ Ribs for $5, and they have the guy with the skewer cooking it right there. Its clean and real safe too since every cop in Newark eats there.

Last season I went to McWhorters BBQ. It was fantastic. Prices are dandy as is the food and the portions large. AND we brought in a bag of beers and the waiters said go ahead and drink em' with your dinner.

Not really walking distance but Seabra is on Route 21 a couple of blocks north of the arena. Pretty decent Portugese restaurant. Good food and good sangria.

Newark Restaurants

Just figured I'd throw this in here....Doc spoke at the Fan Club meeting tonight and mentioned that since Chico basically ate everywhere he could at the Rock, "Chico Eats" will now branch out to the restaurants around the arena for what should be a weekly feature during Devil games.

I wonder just how far into Newark he'll venture. Will he go just around the downtown/Ironbound area or will he go all the way up Bloomfield Ave to places like Dickie Dee's.

I live in the development directly across from there and we eat there every few weeks, food is good, although not walking distance, it is less than a 5 minute cab ride if you take the cab.

Thanks! I'm going to actually try it out in a few months when I can eat solid food (got a tooth knocked out and two others chipped).

I like to go to The Arena Bar, which is one block away from The Rock. Don't let the name fool you. It is more of an upscale lounge than a bar and they do serve good food (I had a delicious burger there once).
