I feel he is making a financial mistake to go UFA. That was a good offer.. With the troubles ahead for the NHL and Players maybe no one will sign him other than the Rangers and maybe they will clean up their act this year.

If the Devils would have gotten him, he would have walked away just the same...regardless of the end result. Him and Paul Kariya are really good friends and they want to play together again--it was that or nothing for Selanne. However, Anaheim didn't want to trade for him back in March cuz Selanne would have activated the option for sure and they don't have a Scott Gomez-type player laying around to trade (not that the Devils would have been smart to do so either)--now Anaheim can get him next season for a lot less--next FA season will not be a buyer market with the CBA looming. Having said all that, I doubt he will get $3 mil and I doubt he will help Sykora get to 50, but future highlights of the pair will no doubt bring double the pain and suffering to Devils fans...but then again we are used to that by now (Rolston, Mitchell, Morrison, Sykora, Arnott, AlMo, Holik, etc).Selanne signs with the Ducks for about 3 million a season. He's goin' to Anaheim, I've been sayin' it all year -- if the Sharks didn't make the playoffs or do well this season, he'll go back to playing with Kariya.

You know, I don't believe for a second that Teemu turned down New Jersey, and if he did, it was the right move.. has anyone noticed how Owen Nolan and Tony Amonte are doing? When will people learn, trading for scoring at the deadline doesn't work.
Anyway, if he is planning to go back to the Ducks, it would be for the playoffs.. add Selanne to that roster, a year-older Chistov, maybe some more depth on the backline, and that's a team capable of upsetting a top seed again next year.
San Jose has no chance of making the playoffs next year and Teemu knows it.
