I would still bring him back as an insurance policy though. There is no guarantee all 5 starters remain healthy through spring training (especially with the 3 of the 4 coming back from surgery - Santana, Perez, Niese). And even if all starters remain healthy, the bullpen could use a boost if his arm can handle a reliever role.

figi pitched well today. eh i clapped the team off the field, gonna miss oct ball again..
no reason not to clap the team off the field. the problem this year wasn't really players underachieving, it was more that their top ~5 players had long injuries.

Bench coach Sandy Alomar Sr. and first base coach Luis Alicea will not return to the Mets’ big-league staff in 2010, the Mets have confirmed.
Hitting coach Howard Johnson, pitching coach Dan Warthen and bullpen coach Randy Niemann will remain in their roles. Third base coach Razor Shines will stay on the staff in another role, as will catching instructor Sandy Alomar Jr.
Alomar Sr. will be invited to stay with the organization in another capacity.

There is also some news that Minaya is looking at former Padres' GM Kevin Towers and former Blue Jays's GM J.P. Ricciardi to join his posse. Its kinda funny though, its like hes setting himself up to be taken over.
Mets GM Omar Minaya has interest in hiring two of his former counterparts, Kevin Towers and J.P. Ricciardi. Joel Sherman of the New York Post says Minaya contacted the ousted GMs "to express his support...and also to lay the groundwork to speak to both soon about possible jobs in the Mets' organization."

And after a season like this one, the chances of swinging 90 losses into 90 wins are very low.
I disagree. The Mets lost 92 games mainly because of a slew of bad injuries.
edit: Pruccenter you should change this thread to the 'Mets Offseason Thread'.

I expect the Mets to be right up there for the division and if they don't win 90 games, it'll be a disappointment

What did he ask? That was a hell of an interview by Mike Francessa. I didn't hear the player part, but the off-field stuff was damn good, and Mike asked what I thought were the right questions.

Would anyone be interested in bringing Delgado back on a 1 year heavy-incentive deal? Because if you look at the market for 1B, there really isn't a 'pretty' 1-year stop gap guy, unless you like Russel Branyan. I like Adam LaRoche the most but hes bound to get a 2 or 3 year deal somewhere (wouldn't be shocked to see Atlanta re-sign him).
Isn't Laroche sort of like a poor mans Delgado anyway? How's his fielding?
But yea, his stats are good enough to warrant at least 2 years somewhere else.
Hank Blalock is also out there....eh, he's like Francoeur at 1st. Hate his plunging obp though he is a pure thumper.
Re sign Delgado if you can't get Prince Fielder.
What would it take to get Fielder anyway? Do the Brewers want a pitcher heavy package?

LaRoche is a fine fielder and is a usual lock to hit about 23-28 homers and OPS above .800 .. If you get LaRoche, you know what you're getting, while on the other hand with Delgado you really don't know how he will hit anymore after the hip surgery (and plus hes another year older). But yeah Delgado can be had on a cheap incentive deal while LaRoche will probably get a 2 or 3 year deal somewhere.
Hank Blalock is also out there....eh, he's like Francoeur at 1st. Hate his plunging obp though he is a pure thumper.
Eh, I'm not really a Blalock fan. He hasn't put up an OPS above .800 for a full season (150-162 games) since way back in 2003 and 2004. Also hes an obvious product of that hitter's park in Arlington; career .874 OPS at home and a career .714 OPS on the road.
What would it take to get Fielder anyway? Do the Brewers want a pitcher heavy package?
It would cost way too much.
