Hmm, I attempted to change the text line in my signature and the board message says the image is 'too wide or high'. The image is the same...I just edited the text under it. Even deleting the text returns the same error message.
weird...

I think DM had said if you had an avatar bigger than the restrictions it wouldn't be affected until you tried to change it. So now that you tried to modify your sig it is likely forcing it to conform.
This is how big your signature should be. Any larger and you are compensating.

OK, I'm confused now. I resized the image, which is now 400 x 87 and 5.7 kb, and the board still says it's too big. I wiped out the image link in the sig and re entered it, and no joy.
Shouldn't the above work? Or do I need more coffee/sleep?

Shows 400x87 for me. What resolution is the picture? I get messed up between 72, 96 and 200 pixels sometimes.

The board definitely no longer likes that image even though it seems like it's within specs. I sure see larger images in other signatures. Strange. I haven't attempted to post any other images in place of that one.

Your sig is 400 x 87 pixels aka 5.556 x 1.208 inches with a resolution of 72 pixels per inch.
I just save your sig from your post and opened it in PhotoShop.
I don't know what else you have in there that may be causing you some issues. Is the restriction of sigs the total L x W or just the photo?
