Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde, Quincy Carter, Jay Fielder, Brooks Bollinger, Patrick Ramsey, Marques Tuiasosopo, Kliff Kingsburry, Mark Brunell, Kellen Clemens, Brad Smith, Brett Favre... & NOW... Mark Sanchez. The many faces of New York Jets quarterbacks that have donned the green & white since (only) 2004. 13 QB's that have taken at least one snap during a regular'season game for Gang Green, in a 6 year stretch! This means as a Jet fan, you're seeing an average of (over) 2 QB's play football (in some capacity) for your team... every single season. One word... WOW! As a fan, I've been force-fed hearing plug campaign, after plug campaign (from media & fans alike) that this guys the 'Arm' (Testaverde)... the 'Scrambler' (Carter)... the 'Genius' (Pennington)... the 'Stop'Gap' (Fielder)... the 'Insurance-Policy' (Ramsey)...the 'Anomaly' (Bollinger)... the 'Future' (Clemens)... the 'Greatest' (Favre)... and now finally: the 'Franchise' in Sanchez... everytime I read a website, opened a newspaper, listen to talk radio... etc. So pardon me (being as conditioned as I am) to not jump for joy when I heard that the Jets traded their 1st & 2nd Round Draft picks (and current players aswell) for yet another go around at the guy that will be throwing touchdowns (and undoubtedly, a plethora interceptions) for us this season. Over the past 48 hours, I have concluded something as a Jet fan; *Somehow people don't seem to get the Jets recent track-record of QB`Follies. There can be no other explanation, because (yet again) I see/read/hear people (mostly Jet fans) stroke themselves with excitement, over the possibility of yet another quarterback tacking snaps for the Jets, thinking all the while... THIS IS THE ANSWER! (I have found myself making the same mistake) Mark Sanchez is sadly another example of this. We've gone through GM's, players, coaches, (3 since '05) yet this is the position with the most flux, and lack of stability. I wish I went away on vacation from Saturday on! The countless phone calls that I've been getting... watching NFL Network... reading the Post... ESPN... it's just so stupid. Everyone continues to ramble about this guys credentials; "Experts said he could've went 1st overall!" --- "He's the Rose Bowl MVP!" --- "This guy's gonna be a warrior!" ENOUGH!! I don't care about some 22 year old kids collegiate resume, I care about my QB proving he can win games for my football team. (which he has yet to do) As if I haven't heard this song & dance before over, and over, and over again... it get's old for Chr!st sake!

So my message to my fellow Jets fans is pure & simple...Pump your Brakes! I know it's hard (living in the Tri'State Area's Media pit) trying to tune out the hype, but trust me... it'll be worth it in the long run. Keep your expectations to a bare minimum. (and I mean MINIMUM) In fact... hope for the worst! (which includes Ratliff going to Cleveland and becoming Elway ) Even after this season ends, wait and see if he can do it again next year. Who knows, we may still be looking @ Erik Ainge winning this whole QB competition after all is said and done, and when training camp ends. (considering many say he's tight with Rex) Cross your fingers, take a deep breath, and roll the dice. It won't be hard to do, if you've rooted for NYJ as long as I have... trust me.

I like his demeanor and his leadership attributes, whether Sanchez has credibility after playing just one season as a starter IN COLLEGE remains to be seen.

This could just be just another Woody Johnson ploy to sell PSL's.

I don't know what to make of this. There's been way too much hype over the years, and i've learned not to follow it anymore so I avoid disapointment. There are many question marks surrounding him and like MantaRay said he played just one year in college as a starter, but he did play exceptionally well in the Rose Bowl. could this finally be the Jets answer to a franchise QB? We'll just have to wait and see.

While the move does have Woody written all over it I gotta admit a couple things:

-The deal isn't as bad as I feared it would be. Ironically if it wasn't Mangini on the other end of the trade maybe it would have required more picks and less hold-the-fort bodies (who played for him here). And they didn't give up any of next year's picks, though I'm not too crazy about only drafting three players total this year thanks to this trade and the one for the RB.

-He does seem to be worthy of the hype and have all the tools (without Matt Leinart's idiosyncrasices), of course who knows how accurate that arm will be in November and December in this stadium.

-Historically the Jets usually miss out or bypass chances to get the franchise guy, this time they didn't.

-This franchise actually did need a jolt, especially after the fiasco of last season with the way Favre and Chad blew up in our faces.

Provided that the Thomas Jones contract is done early, they really won't need him to do too much even in the later months. Rex is patterning the Jets after the Ravens. I think OC-Schott will also help keep the pressure off him, until next year when they graduate to a new level.

That exactly what it is. They NEED Jones in camp, especially with a rookie QB soon to be anointed "Starter".
They will phase Jones out in the next two years.

...and so it begins. The long Jet offseason, where the Big Apple comes (yet again) bearing gifts with lavish and propaganda, to the next Gang Green QB... genuflecting all the while. I wonder how the "Brett Favre Tree" is doing right now.

It's hard to get excited about Sanchez if you're a Jet fan. His biggest plus is that he played in a very similar system at USC, but 16 starts, and the fact he's an underclassman is huge. Matt Ryan and Flacco were both 5th year seniors. It doesn't sound like much of a difference, but in terms of QB development its huge.

This was the weakest NFL draft in years (on paper). I don't think the Jets risked a whole lot other than sacrificing a few picks, but its very hard to buy Sanchez as some sort of savior. I'd bet bust before anything else though.

That was my argument. He is in the best position possible for a rookie QB.

The first bad game he has, you know some fans will be calling for his head. Look at the way Giant fans treated Eli until he won the SB. NY fans are anything but patient, especially when it comes to QB's. Simms was treated like garbage for a long time too.

...at this rate, they may be purchasing Sanchez jersey's... and watching him sit to start the season. (ala Leinart) Because honestly, I'm not sure if he's ready to be a starter... and why throw him to the wolves? That 1st quarter tonight was rough. `0/4... a pick'6... a fumble... 2 delay-of-games... jeeesh, enough already. But then Reed & Lewis left for the 2nd quarter, and all of a sudden he went 3/4... TD pass... no more picks. Guess what Mark, you won't be seeing the 2nd team when the regular season starts.

As crazy as some may think this sounds, Kellen should start the season.

While retaining all the prime talent from last season.. (Kerry Rhodes, Leon Washington, Dustin Keller) in addition; cutting some of the old-dead-weight.. (Ty Law, Laveranues Coles, Bubba Franks, etc) coupled with all the acquisitions.. (Bart Scott, Lito Sheppard, Braylon Edwards) Are the Jets a better team (at least on paper) then they were last season? 'Yes! -Yet after half-a-dozen games played, they sit @ .500 with a 3-3 record. (the same record they were after 6 games last season) So what gives right?

*Well let's look at the 3 loses. #1.`New Orleans: Sanchez finishes the game with 4 turnovers, (1 Fumble - 3 INT's) 2 of the 4 turnovers result in touchdowns, which... by matter of points, are the exact number the Saints beat the Jets by. (14) #2.`Miami: Sanchez (looking average at best) doesn't show up throughout the game until nearly the 3rd quarter, complete's half of his passes, and ultimately gets outshined by Henne. The Dolphins go on to squeeze out a victory.. by 4 points.. with 3 seconds remaining in the game. #3.`Buffalo: Do I really need to even write a description here? Sanchez's worst game of the season. 5 picks.. completed 10 out of 30 passes.. and an 8 (YES EIGHT) QB Rating for the evening. STILL, despite all of this (AND the fact Jenkins, Smith, & Cotchery are all absent from this game) the Jets stay in the game until OT, where they lose a nailbiter to the Bills 16-13.
Okay, now let's recap: ~Of the Jets 3 loses. `Dirty Sanchez: *8 INT's.. *39.8 QB Rt.. *44 Cmp%... *1 TD... *3 Fumbles... -&- has been Sacked for *50 yrds.

The Point? Sanchez, PLAYING LIKE A DOG through all 3 of the Jets loses, has turned the ball over 11 FVCKING TIMES between fumbles & picks! THE JETS (somehow) HAVE STAYED IN EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE GAMES DESPITE #6! Are the Jets 3-3 with (A HEALTHY) Favre this season? -No fvcking way!! More like 4-2 imo. (who knows, maybe even 5-1) I think after this year ends with the Vikings, and all the dust settles.. alot of people are going to owe #4 an apology. There's a reason why his season with the Jets last year started to tank, right around the same time he tore the biceps tendon. (in his throwing arm for Christ sake) How's he look this season after surgery? The disparity within this Jets team is stunning. The squad itself is built for "Win-Now" mode... although, the quarterback's a 22 year old rookie.

I'm sick of hearing: "These are the growing pains of a rookie QB" -&- "Oh, you just gotta wait when it comes to Sanchez" -Please Stop! Jets fans have been waiting 40 years.

Your offensive line is mostly young. You have a rookie QB, a tight end who is good and only 25. A star WR you just traded for who's 26. Given the RB is 31 but its obvious they've been trying to transition to the younger, just as capable, backup who is only 27. You've got a young, good secondary. You have defensive tackles who are all 30 so I'll give you that but are flippin' kidding me? Built to win now, with a new QB and a new head coach? Do you actually watch these games before you whine?

And I thought Cowboys fans were bad....
