Man, I feel really bad for how much scrutiny Gio's gonna get in Montreal...

At the going rates... I wish we found a way to keep Gio. Maybe 5M was bit high, but really, in comparison to the rest of the league, he just might be worth it. He is fast. He has great hands. He goes to the net. He has his heart in the game.... I really wish we could have kept him, and have no doubt he willl do VERY well in Montreal. Brian, all the best and good luck (unless you play NJ in the playoffs, then go to hell, better yet, let us send you there!).

I wish Gio the best as well but gotta move on. We've always wanted youth to get a chance, so here it is! i'm looking forward to it.

Absurd money for someone whose numbers have been trending the wrong way for a while now. I didn't want him back. Good for him getting his money, but I can't see him living up to it.

The 48-goal season was fun, but the last two seasons COMBINED saw him net far less than that, and like others have noted I won't miss all of the missed scoring opportunities. I think this group needs some new blood anyway...I have some good memories regarding both Gio and Madden, but it's time for some change.

[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?
- Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

He did score some big goals this year too, but five is too much, pass.

You do know that Devil fans are so used to being in the playoffs that people save their money for the later rounds, right? Triumph

"Quite frankly, all the players are getting paid too much and all the contracts are too long," general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "But if you want to compete in this market and you want to win, there are some things you have to do."

Can't believe he's gone, still weird reading the article. I still think something could have been worked out, I didn't hear about an offer from Lou? Am I missing that information, because I haven't read it, and I think he would have taken a pay cut to stay in NJ.

I don't care about Madden being let go, he should've been in the AHL last season with the way he was playing. I do find it humorous that Gainey believes or "hopes" Gio can have a 75-80 point season.

Just saw this. This blows my mind. Was Gainey bidding against anyone for Gionta? Talk about a false market NHL free-agency day creates. Gionta is actually getting a raise. This is insane.

I hope Brian knows what he is getting himself in to. This could get ugly.

"The Stanley Cup has fallen from the Stars. The new millennium has its first Stanley Cup Champion, and it's the New Jersey Devils." Mike Miller calling the Devils winning the Stanley Cup.

"It goes to the captain and then there are handoffs during a skate around the ice" Mike Emrick as Scott Stevens is being presented the Stanley Cup.

Wow, I love Gio as much as the next guy but this is beyond ridiculous. $25 million for a guy that's only broken 25 goals once in his career?! I guess Gainey and Sather are competing for the worst GM of the league award.

I'm really happy that I never have to see him come in and take a sh!tty shot from a long horrible angle anymore.

...while a free patrik elias awaited a pass that never came.
