tanguay is like, the least likely player to come here, the devils have 4 LWs (elias, parise, rolston, pandolfo).

Pando will be playing. Especially with Lemaire as coach. He will be on the 3rd line with Shanny.
if this happens, i'm sure someone can wait outside pando or shanahan's car with a crowbar. the devils cannot have jay pandolfo and brendan shanahan playing on a third line.
I would think Jay would be the extra foward and rotate with PL3... but he's getting paid 2.5m/yr to be an extra?? Lou won't have that.
The devils might not even sign shanny.. and if they dont.. that puts Pando on line 3
Lou won't have it? The guy sat for games and games when Shanahan was signed.

Elias ____ Rolston
Shanny Zubrus Clarkson
Pando Pelley Pikkarainen
Oduya Martin
White Salvador
Mottau Greene/Corrente
That leaves Halischuk, Bergfors, PL3, and Greene or Corrente as possible trade bait. Halischuk/Bergfors and Corrente for a 2nd line center? Doesn't seem out of the question to me. Or Clarkson, Halischuk, and Greene, plugging Bergfors into the 3rd line RW slot? Lou has said he'd look into trades, and TG thinks our 2nd line center will come via trade as well.

I know Jacques is used to having Rolston on the wing, but he is a decent center.. or they move Elias to Center to create more space.

rolston was miserable at center last year, jdub. it'll be interesting to see who ends up with it.

the devils really cannot trade anyone. everyone either has a no-trade clause, is on a bad contract, or is on a good contract. the devils don't have a player like lauri korpikoski who's kind of overpaid and kind of good and kind of young.

You're right, but something is gonna probably happen before camp. I can't see Lou taking this roster into opeing night.

He'll be out for the first couple months of the season recovering from shoulder surgery, but after that, is there any reason to believe he won't return to form?

Phil Kessel's out there as well. Not looking like he's headed back to Boston...

We don't have the pieces to trade, nor do we have the money to sign Kessel. Never happen.

P - Z - L
Elias - Rolston - Clarkson (or Elias as center, Rolston on wing)
Shanny ? - Zubrus - Bergfors
Pando - Pelly - Pikka
P3L rotating with Pando/Pikka
We can't have Pando be the 3rd line wing, but without Shanny that may happen, at least part of the time.
Better to have Rolston on the 3rd line LW and get a 2nd line Center !

Nichol spent the past four seasons with the Nashville Predators, scoring 10 points in 43 games last season while missing extensive playing time with a concussion.
Nichol is likely to play on the Sharks' fourth line in place of center Marcel Goc, who won't be re-signed by the Sharks.

I think, if anything, this shows us we have more depth than everybody thinks and we could package a couple guys for a decent 2nd line center. Say we sign Shanny, as Lou has said he wants to do.ZZPopsElias ____ RolstonShanny Zubrus ClarksonPando Pelley PikkarainenOduya MartinWhite SalvadorMottau Greene/CorrenteThat leaves Halischuk, Bergfors, PL3, and Greene or Corrente as possible trade bait. San Jose needs cap space and a 3rd line RW. Send Bergfors, Clarkson, Pando and next years 1st to the Sharks for Marleau. The reason I think the Sharks might do it is:
1. They have Logan Couture waiting in the wings at C to replace Marleau.
2. Clarkson gives them the 3rd line RW and grit they need for cheap.
3. They don't have any top line talent coming through the system at RW, so Bergfors addresses that.
4. By taking Pando back it should work for both teams salary cap.
That leaves us with:
Elias - Marleau - Rolston
Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner
Shannahan - Zubrus - Halischuk
PL3 - Pelley - Pikkarainen

that leaves the team absolutely destitute when marleau walks. if the devils sent a 1st with bergfors and clarkson, lou is officially delusional - you have shanahan and marleau walking with absolutely no replacement for them on the horizon, and no money with which to sign anyone halfway decent. (i suppose the 1st is inducement for the sharks to take pandolfo). i mean, it's a cup contender i suppose, but it sure is putting all the eggs in one basket - the devils would be likely to miss the playoffs in 2011.

If his faceoff percentage wasn't so low, I'd be adamantly stumping for Lou to take a chance on him. As it is, I don't think he'd be that expensive and he can handle C or RW. Just depends how Lou envisions rounding out those second and third lines.

Just out of curiosity, Tri - any reason you left Jason Williams off the list? He's good as a complimentary scorer/2nd liner, as he's shown in his career. He runs into problems when he's expected to really help carry the load (see: Atlanta). In a secondary role like Columbus (and his last season in Chicago) he does well for himself.

mike comrie isn't there either, and i don't think either one is in the devils' plans. i don't think williams fits into this team - he's not a good center, and right wing is all booked up. basically i think there's a reason he's been on 4 teams since the lockout, he's weak defensively and he's essentially a power play specialist - he's a lot like mark recchi, actually.
if he were lw/c i could see signing him up, but there can't be anyone who takes away ice time from bergfors or clarkson, and williams would probably do just that while not solving the center problem at all.

25 games for Tampa last season 5 goals 10 assists 15 points.I seriousley doubt he could manage that across an entire season but that would have out him 4th in points out of all our D men last season. If none of the guys from lowell make the team this year he could be a good guy to have around for when Greene forgets what sport he is playing for 30 or so games.
Oduya/Martin
White/Mottau
Salvador/Greene or Murphy
Still would like to see us pick up Dominic Moore as well. 45 points in 82 games last year is really not a bad return. Play him between Elias and Rolston and thats not a bad line at all.
Parise/Zajac/Langs
Elias/Moore/Rolston
Pandolfo/Zubrus/Clarkson
Pikka/Pelley/Bergfors
spare; P3L

Ah, see, while I did mention positives about Williams as a low-rent addition, I didn't mean solely for the Devils. Didn't realize your list on the first page was pointedly directed at good options for the Devils.
yeah i didn't make that clear, sorry - it was both general and specific. i don't see new jersey adding a LW or RW.
Im intrigued by Cory Murphy.

to me, murphy and greene's skill sets are too similar. murphy is 31 - he has to go somewhere where he can get as much playing time as possible, and that place isn't here. if he can parlay a good season somewhere, maybe he gets a multi-million dollar contract next season.
