"Over the years the meaning of Memorial Day has faded more and more from the public consciousness. From a solemn day of mourning, of remembrance, and of honor to our departed loved ones, it has degenerated into a weekend of Bar B Q's and beaches where only token nods toward our honored dead is given, if at all. Too many people don't even know what the day stands for."

The numbers on the bottom stand for what. It can't be a death count.

"It goes to the captain and then there are handoffs during a skate around the ice" Mike Emrick as Scott Stevens is being presented the Stanley Cup.

Those are the numbers of POWs/MIAs from each of America's wars this past century.
Death is horrible.
But can you imagine the pain of uncertainty that family members must go through?

memorial day has sort of turned into a WW2 remembrance day. Those veterans take center stage. The raising of the flag at Iwo Jima & the Reichstag seem to be the enduring images of memorial day.

I believe the filming crew missed the moment and asked the soldiers to recreate it.

and then of course you had the flag being placed at the reichstag on may 2, Victory Day in europe would come a week later.

This is a very neglected holiday, my parents don't even get off work and most people don't even stop to think about it.

Never underestimate the scoring force of the almighty one named Scott Stevens, who is destined to become the greatest Power on Earth.

"If it is considered a holiday, why is it so? I consider it to be a national day of mourning. Because of what that day represents, the rest of the days of the year are our holidays."

All gave some.
Some gave all.
Memorial Day is a day of mourning.

Veterans Day is a day of appreciation for all veterans.
