"The Nets are considering playing their regular season home games at the Prudential Center in Newark while a new arena is being built for them in Brooklyn, several team officials said Wednesday night.

After drawing large crowds for two preseason games in Newark — including nearly 16,000 Wednesday for a game against the New York Knicks — the Nets are warming to the idea of spending a few years at the Prudential Center as long as they can get out of their lease at Meadowlands without having to pay an $8 million penalty.

A temporary move to Newark could happen as early as next season, said the officials, who asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to speak for the club."

I was at the game, great atmosphere. There were alot of Devils fans in attendance, representing with their Devils jersey's. Plenty of basketball fans aswell looking at all the hockey artwork, and admiring all the Devils history throughout the arena. The crowd was into the game... the game was a close one too (as the Knicks only won by one bucket) ...and I think overall, the general feeling leaving the game was that; *Nets basketball could thrive in Newark. I really hope the two sides come together and make this happen, because I think BOTH the Devils & Nets could profit from such a move.

I know having the Nets there will do great things for the city of Newark, for the pockets of Jeff Vanderbeek, keep the building open more nights a week, etc, etc.

However, I love the idea of the Rock being a hockey only arena. Yeah, there is very little chance of it staying that way, but it will be sad to see half the Devils stuff stripped away to make room for basketball. Yes, it's purely selfish but whatever, that's how I feel!

See at least you're honest, and I have a lot of respect for that.. We all selfishly wish the Rock could be our exclusive home, but it's just not paying the bills.. Thank you for not being blind on the issue it's quite refreshing

and thus my intrest in the Nets is at an alltime high. I used to love going to Nets games, use to go to more of them then devil game actually, but once they wanted to move i havent gone yet. If this keeps up I may start rooting more for the Nets who are going to be good in a couple of years.

I agree with you, but i dont think our stuff would come down...theres plenty of space for the nets to have some stuff up, without Devils stuff being torn down

These are the key points in a tentative deal reached between Prudential Center, Izod Center, the Devils and the Nets via negotiations with Governor Corzine’s office, based on a memo by administration economics czar Jerry Zaro obtained by The Record:

The two arenas would enter into a joint venture called “Jersey Presents LLC,” which would operate cooperatively to book, operate and manage concerts and family shows.
Izod Center would be home to most of those events.
Prudential Center would become the “sports venue,” with the Devils, Seton Hall, indoor soccer, lacrosse, etc.
The Nets would “consider” an agreement to move to Prudential Center, beginning next season and continuing until their move to Brooklyn.
The Devils would agree to pay more than $2 million in back rent to Newark — money that has been withheld pending a settlement of alleged penalties the city owes to the Devils.

After this season, Brooklyn may not even want them. Tonight the Nets log half-a-dozen games in the books.. they have yet to win a game. And with teams like Boston, Philly, Orlando, & Miami after tonights' game, it's very possible that the Nets open the season @ 0-10.

Thank god, with my luck I would've been transferred to Atlantic Avenue right before construction started.

They call me every few days offering to treat me to a game with all the food and ammenities I want if I'll just tour the arena with an account manager.. At first I was like "If only the Devils would do this for me" and then I realized "Wait, we don't need to, and that's a VERY good thing" hahaha

I hope these lame ducks never win a game and i never want to see them step foot in the Rock unless they are a permanent based NJ team.

Take New Jersey off the uniforms and start 0-12. HAHAHA!

I was pissed to find out that they even took all traces of the words NEW JERSEY off of their website even. You can only find it ONCE in the history section where it says they were the New York Nets in the 70s then the New Jersey Nets.

Freaking pathetic.

Over the course of a 12 game season, only 4 other teams have finished their first 12 games 0-12. None finished any better that 15 wins, which would still be the worst mark in Nets NBA history. The other four, for the record:

72-73 Philadelphia 76ers - Final record 9-73
97-98 Denver Nuggets - Final record 11-71
88-89 Miami Heat (expansion team) - Final record 15-67
70-71 Cleveland Cavaliers - final record 15-67

The Nets this year are a complete disgrace. My Knicks aren't much better...their defense is a total embarassment...but at least they're capable of winning some games by completely out-gunning opponents.
