So Awesome. OMG A 4th line center for real! He is beyond excellent. I had no idea who he even was really, how did this guy slip through all the other teams? He could be on anyone's 4th line and contribute in a similar role. Unreal.

PS is ANYONE missing Zubrus at center? Anyone? I'm good with these centers kthx. Pelley is better at wing imo, he really hasn't shown me in these years that he can hack it as an NHL center. Had a good game last night too.

Elias...sure you'd rather have Elias at wing but really, really, really...do we really need Zubrus back at center?

First off No One should miss Zubrus. Let him warm the bench, go to Lowell, or stay IR for the rest of the season and then get rid of him even if the Devils have to pay his salary.

Elias is a winger why is that a surprise?

McAmmond is doing very well at this time let's hope this continues.

dean mcammond is a nice player, but he is not 'beyond excellent'. he has good speed and can play on a 4th line. his faceoff percentage is typically in the lower 40s, which is why he usually hasn't been a center in his career.

the devils can use zubrus, especially on the power play where rob niedermayer or dean mcammond has been the player chosen for the 2nd unit.

Zubrus doesn't score on the 2nd power play unit though, why bother? Clarkson and Nieds are the down low men right now, or Parise, and that's fine with me.

McAmmond has been wonderful. We had holes at center, and he is the lynchpin of a fourth line that can genuinely eat minutes now, on his shoulders. He plays smart, has a good stick, and is constantly making good decisions. Hasn't been a penalty machine either. I wish we had him instead of Holik earlier.

It's his signing more than anything else that has transpired this season, including where we currently are in the standings, that makes me comfortable in saying that we are a contender this year. You need a fourth line that can eat minutes and carry the play, and he's allowing the line to do that.

Let's take it easy here. The fourth line had one good game. Let's see them keep it up against teams a bit tougher than Buffalo.

McAmmond playing well as of late which is a good thing with Zubrus out of the line up.

I lied, the Niedermayer signing helped too. We were so weak down the middle heading into the season.

rob niedermayer doesn't belong anywhere near an NHL power play. he's been nice for new jersey but i'll be amazed if he keeps this up.

McAmmond has been wonderful. We had holes at center, and he is the lynchpin of a fourth line that can genuinely eat minutes now, on his shoulders. He plays smart, has a good stick, and is constantly making good decisions. Hasn't been a penalty machine either. I wish we had him instead of Holik earlier.

while mcammond has been nice, he's sub 45% on faceoffs in his recent career. he has some nice speed. he has 1 point and 13 shots on goal in 9 games.

It's his signing more than anything else that has transpired this season, including where we currently are in the standings, that makes me comfortable in saying that we are a contender this year. You need a fourth line that can eat minutes and carry the play, and he's allowing the line to do that.

dean mcammond is what makes the devils a contender? was it jay leach that made you think they were a contender last year?

I lied, the Niedermayer signing helped too. We were so weak down the middle heading into the season.

niedermayer and mcammond are just not very good; by the playoffs, one should not be playing center, and probably both should be on the 4th line.

Zubrus is worse.

Really, Zubrus is bad. In a pressure situation I'd rather have Niedermayer or Mcammond on the ice than Zubrus, but I don't know who I'd want taking the draw.

niedermayer and mcammond are way worse than dainius zubrus, it's just not even close or debatable. zubrus has more points per game, he's better on faceoffs, and so on and so forth. if rob niedermayer is the 3rd line center of this team come playoff time, it's going to be in trouble.

Alright I mean we'll see. I blame Zubrus for a lot of the team's problems since he's been signed and I think a lot of it is justified if you look beyond the stats.

His point scoring is so bursty the averages don't even matter.

take off the zubrus hate and ask yourself honestly if you'd rather have mcammond or neidermayer if that's the choice. if you say yes, you're just missing the point. if zubrus' salary is what is foolishly influencing your decision, then you need to ignore it. it's a sunk cost - at this point, it doesn't keep the devils from doing something else that they otherwise would do if zubrus' salary wasn't around.

mcammond and neidermayer are nice players - championship teams DO have guys like these - they're on the 4th line.

broken record says playoff lines look like this:

parise-zajac-langenbrunner
rolston-elias-bergfors
zharkov-zubrus-clarkson
pandolfo-neidermayer-mcammond

and yes - i'm wishfully thinking that zharkov keeps playing well enough that he gets his 12-15 minutes a night and pelley/pikkareinen/peters are pushed aside. in truth, illka probably pushes VZ out. also - lemaire might move things around if he doesn't want elias at center and needs to put zubrus there and give neids or mcammond center duty.

Petr Vrana must be kicking himself for going home this season. This year would have been a legit chance for him to make an impression and I think his game is pretty much what Lemaire wants out of a checking line center / PK guy.

sundstrom: meh, injuries are always a factor, hard to believe there won't be at least one guy hurt, which probably puts zharkov on the team. i like the way pikkarainen has played these last few games - it's been a work in progress, i had already given up on him and suddenly he's making some nice, confident plays. it's a reminder once again that speed in hockey is never just the physical force that it takes to move from one place to another.

re: vrana - he has 5 points in 18 games for viktovice HC - his leg injury probably set him back, but he's just not an NHL player.

I said to be patient with Pikkarainen, by years end he should be on the 3rd line in my opinion. Lou did not sign this guy for the 4th line (6 minutes). He has size, OK mobility and a good shot. ON top of that he plays physical. Guys like that wear on the defence over the course of a series.
Petr Vrana didn't have the strength on the puck to play at the NHL level. In todays game its all leg strength, whether its speed or strength, you need an extra something in the legs. Halischuk will work towards that in the off-season.

I didn't know stats in a Czech league determined a players success as a checking liner in the NHL. I thought Vrana could take over Madden's role when he left. annd that obviously didn't happen...
