From the Philly Daily news per the Atlanta Constiturion Journal, sounds like Philly may not be able to shed enough salary to make it happen. Maybe more in the Devils favor as it seems as though there are only a few teams even being mentioned at this point.

This is a great thread! I can only hope its this exciting around here come June I bet site stats will bear it out.

So...what if we're trading guys with LA so LA can trade them to Atlanta for #17? Any three way deals make sense? (OK, I don't know the LA guys so well, just putting it out there we may be involved for reasons other than Kovalchuk)

Source: Thrashers step up trade efforts

The Atlanta Thrashers have stepped up their efforts to move superstar winger Ilya Kovalchuk and a trade could happen "by the weekend," a source close to the situation told ESPN.com Wednesday.

It appeared Wednesday night that the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils were the teams still involved, two sources said. ESPN.com confirmed that Thrashers associate GM Rick Dudley was at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Wednesday night scouting an AHL game between New Jersey's farm team, the Lowell Devils, and the Hartford Wolfpack.

For the forwards in 2012 if you move Rolston down to LW 3rd line, Tedenby (development willing) should be able to fill that spot on the second line. This is a player the devils staff are really high on along with Josefson. Lou mentioned that the draft team at the table when they got one of these guys (can't remember which, think it was Tedenby) was buzzing.

Also im pretty sure we will be able to get Clarkson to resign for a decent amount, although i dont really think he is top line right wing material.

The development of Corrente Burlon Urbom and Eckford is pretty important.

I think definitely by at least 2012 you'll have the rookie contracts of Tedenby and/or Josefson in the lineup... Urbom, Corrente, Eckford...

this trade if it happens should have a domino effect for the Devils. If lou is going to make a splash he better go full throttle and make sure we have all the parts for a serious run!

Pits gave up Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, Angelo Esposito and a 2008 1st-Round Draft Pick. I think us giving up say Rolston/Zubrus/Oduya + Bergfors + Palmeri + 1st round would be comparable. I'd have to believe Lou would be looking for someone to come along with Kovalchuk. Out of all the trades he's made he always has someone come along on the deal.

you cannot assume that all of these players are going to make it in the NHL. tedenby has a ways to go to be a successful NHL player.

I was shocked to see this thread jump another 12 pages last I saw it. And even more shocked this rumor still has legs. It would be amazing if we got him but I really doubt it. I think push comes to shove Lou will have his limit and someone else will go over the top.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: So, that's the latest for this morning. In my opinion the Blackhawks, Flames, Bruins and Canucks aren't serious bidders, the Flyers and Rangers are limited by cap issues and fearful of overpaying for a rental player, while the Kings remain the most logical destination. One cannot rule out what the Devils might due but it would be an uncharacteristic move by Lamoriello to acquire such an expensive rental player. As for the magical mystery teams, let your imagination run wild.

I agree. The only team in this is probably the Kings. I can't see Lou throwing away the future for nothing.

It's really not Lou's style to trade away so much for a rental. I'd do it, but I don't think Lou will. And that's why he's the GM and I'm just a dude on the forum.
