So, whether we get him or not, who can afford him come summer when the rental is over? If he's really looking for 11 mil for 10-12 years, can anyone do that?
The Rangers will find a way.

Elias (6) - Zubrus (3.4) - Kovalchuk (8)
Rolston (5) - Cormier (.875) - Clarkson (2.5)
Zharkov (.850) - Pelley (.550) - Halischuk (.875)
Davis (.550)
Martin (5) - White (3)
Salvador (2.9) - Greene (.738)
Eckford (.984) - Corrente (.821)
Fraser (.550)
Brodeur (5.2)
backup (.550)
--------------
$58.148M
It's possible, not very probable. Martin should be around 5, pando would have to get sent to lowell, salvador could be moved, rolston might be able to be traded, if he finishes strong and puts up decent numbers.
Even for this year its still worth the risk. If he doesn't resign, we have 8M to sure up our team. 4M top 4 D/4M 2nd line center.

Yeah, it's probably not going to happen... but there's no denying it's been fun to even *picture* Kovalchuk in a Devils sweater.

While a deal is not imminent, several reports claim the Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers are among the teams interested in Kovalchuk.
The headline is "Kovalchuk about to be traded", yet it says "a deal is not imminent"... I really want to find out already!

Interesting perspective on the Thrashers forums
http://fans.thrasher...ers-Hockey.html
I saw someone with this idea that i'm not against
"The only thing I see happening would be a three way trade with NJ.
To NJ: Nieds, Pick
To ANA: Kovalchuk
To ATL: Ryan, Bergfors"

And I saw a very recent tweet that he probably won't be traded today. I'd say tomorrow's most likely, before the Thrashers play the Caps.the front page says it will happen today after practice. thats probably the latest

I think that's actually the opposite. He turned down boatload of money because it's the THRASHERS. He hasn't had a chacne to win on the thrashers his whole career, so if all he cared about was money he would have signed that contract.I had heard he turned down 10mil per for 8 years, and this says 'highest paid' for 7 (which I assume would be the cap max of 11 something), so he really is just looking at stoopit money it seems. If that's the case, he won't give a rat's behind where he ends up. He might when he's 35 and hasn't gotten his name on a cup, but it looks to me like he's going to end this season and get the most money he can get from whomever/wherever.

The TFP front page article on Kovalchuk is old (yesterday afternoon).

If that "pick" is a 1st rounder, which it won't be, than yeah. But no way in hell I'm giving up Bergfors for a couple months of a 40 year old.I saw someone with this idea that i'm not against
"The only thing I see happening would be a three way trade with NJ.

EDIT: Also, why on earth would Anaheim be trying to improve for this year? And if they ARE serious at making a run this year, why would they give up Bobby Ryan and Scott Niedermayer? And then Atlanta is giving up a pick as well?
