I play alot of shuffleboard in the local watering hole by my house, curling is VERY similiar. Having the hammer(last weight)is key. Butt have to admit playin is alot better than watching.

i've enjoyed watching curling for the most part. it just gets a little long with all the talking, like dr33 said. that's when i get bored. otherwise, it's pretty neat to watch. i just can't watch it for hours and hours every single day, so i've been watching it sporadically these games.

I actually watched curling all day yesterday in between hockey games. I probably spent 6 hours watching nothing but curling. I've become an addict. :P

Here's what I'm guessing: whoever made the decision to put the game on MSNBC probably realized more cable subscribers have MSNBC than CNBC (just guessing here). Therefore, to make the game available to more people, they decided to put it on MSNBC, regardless of the HD factor. That's the only thing I can think of.

You're probably right and that makes perfect sense, but when it comes to hockey it's all about ME! :)

Much as I hate that curling's gotten precedence, I've had no problem finding feeds online or watching whatever parts of hockey I can get. I always get into the Olympics thinking I'll only watch hockey and I end up loving everything, from skiing to snowboarding to curling to speedskating to bobsled. I love the winter Olympics, and I really don't mind if hockey doesn't get NBC HD for the preliminary round. Canada-US for sure should be on NBC HD, but that's the only real mistake I see. I think the Olympics are a chance for other amateur athletes to get exposure on a national level, something they will never ever get any other way. The NHL players will get plenty of exposure for the rest of the year and during the Medal Round.

Also, I'm quite partial to the Dupont sisters (Denise and Madeleine) from Denmark:

So no one commented on the curling babes posted by whoever that was? The russian babes are so cute, i have literally looked up the times to see when they curl so i can get some pleasure in, I have not done that for any hockey games yet. The russian womens curling team is proof that curling is almost as good as hockey. Theyre unique exotic dime pieces. And it's only in curling.

LOL, I hear ya... I'm watching the USA-Canada women's match right now, I'm Tivoing the USA-Great Britain men's match at 5, and I'm also Tivoing the USA-Sweden women's match tonight at 10. In between the 3 hockey games today and tonight, I WILL find a way to watch all this curling. :P

I love that there's a Facebook fan page for the Norway Curling pants. I try not to become a fan of ridiculous things, but how could I pass that up?

but i actually agree with larry brooks for once - big f-ing deal if you miss the first 5 minutes of a preliminary hockey game.

Wow, did Brooks really write that?

I wonder how Gary Bettman feels about it, or Mike Emrick, or Kenny Albert, or Eddie O. -- or every owner and GM in the National Hockey League.

BTW, I have nothing against curling. I admit I haven't watched more than a few minutes of it, but that's just because I haven't had the time.

Curling is actually a pretty cool sport, and from what I have heard from people...it has created a nice buzz in the States. It is gigantic in Canada and pulls in massive ratings, but I only really watch during the Olympics. It really is a perfect sport to Tivo, where you can fast forward a lot of the talking in between the shots and the first few stones from each end. It definitely has some incredible strategy and some of the shot-making ability is fantastic. If anyone ever tried it, you'll have a lot more appreciation.

German redhead is 17. Tsk tsk. :P

I agree on the PVR thing. I did record the Martin game last night vs Great Britain and watched it this morning. I watch the Tournament of Hearts, but only watch the mens tournament if Nova Scotia is doing well. The mens almost always boils down to Martin or Furbey.

But I bet that I watch more curling during the Olympics than I do the whole 4 years in between events.

For anyone interested in trying out curling there is a club over in South Plainfield.

http://www.njcurling.org/

They do open houses periodically. It's a nice place. Has it's own cash bar. My parents are members there.

Next open house is on the 28th this month.

The Colbert segment on curling was taped there.

Your unconditional rejection of violence makes you smugly think of yourselves as noble, as enlightened, but in reality it is nothing less than abject moral capitulation to evil. Unconditional rejection of self-defense, because you think its a supposed surrender to violence, leaves you no resort but begging for mercy or offering appeasement.

YES they rule! I am a fan of them on facebook. I also like that Noways woman wear skirts.

I love curling I got sucked into it 8 years ago. As a joke a friend made an event to watch curling friday night at the local bar. This joke got out of control and it got a write up in the Boston Herald and channel new 7 showed up to do a story on the event (never aired though but my picture is on their twitter page).

I like curling. :giggle:

@Jimmy

I've watched Shuster/McCormick and quickly found out how they score. The center circle(button) is where the general area you want it. If at the end of the end the two closest rocks are yellow, that team(yellow) gets two points. If the the closest one is yellow then the next is red the team throwing yellow rocks gets one points.
