Thanks, Crasher. For all the great things Bob Gainey did for the Stars, wow, was that summer of 2001 ever a stinker!

It's like a row of dominoes. All those bad FA signings of players who didn't fit or Hitch wouldn't let fit started falling - Audette, Lumme, Kamensky, (DiMaio somehow hung on in spite of Hitch!), and they knock down Hitchcock, causing Gainey to step down early, then they knock down Nieuwy & Langs, and now they're knocking down Hatcher and who knows else, and who's still standing???? Turgeon!!! King of the Hill!!!

If only Gainey had known . . . .

Winner of the 2004 Lady Byng Award and the 2003 and 2004 Joe Nieuwendyk award.

"He has no ego," says Lou Lamoriello, general manager of the New Jersey Devils. "I don't think he has a selfish bone in his body. It gets infectious with people around him, but that's Joe. Having him here was something very special."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
And the simple truth is this -- before and after Joe Nieuwendyk, this franchise has not been as good. Yes the same could be said for others, but Nieuwendyk's effect on his team, on his team's best players, on the fans and in the community can only be compared to, well, what Jarome Iginla is doing now in Calgary. Here you go - from dallasnews.com - Mike Heika's article

The Stars are now expected to stop shopping players such as Guerin and Jason Arnott and will surely keep Richard Matvichuk. Armstrong said he planned to build around players like Matvichuk.

"We still have one of the best teams in the West, and if we don't perform at a level to win a Stanley Cup, then I've really misjudged the character of these people," Armstrong said. "I believe a core group of four defensemen with Matvichuk, [Sergei] Zubov, [Darryl] Sydor and (Philippe) Boucher are as good as any in the league."

ok thanks. But why were they shopping them around in the first place? I'm confused with this now. I agree with those players being a big part, but why were they trying to get rid of them?

Got me, goobergirl. Seems like they've been saying one thing one day, and something totally different the next.

The summer of Turgeon was insane, Gainey just lost his mind in my opinion. Now the Stars are crying poverty, please remember the good people of Dallas were told how the new arena would make the Stars money problems all better. Owner ass hole Hicks signed Arod to stupid money and is paying Chan Ho Park 13.5 million to pitch in AA ball, but can't possible afford to resign Hatcher.............I'm disgusted.

After the summer of Turgeon they go out and get Guerin and Young both of whom get no trade clauses, but no Hatcher!

I'm a bit surprised that they would shop Hatcher and even Guerin--is his injury worse than led to believe? Not surprised about Arnott, though. Seems Jason's on his way down the tubes, unfortunately unless he gets a decent turnaround from a decent club.

Here's the translation on these guys in my opinon:
We want to dump these guys like hot coals but no one wants to touch of pay for these guys so we will turn and call them quality character players since season ticket sales start soon

calling Sergei Zubov a character player is like lettiong Brian Gionta ride on the "big person rides" at Great Adventure :P
Hatcher wants Scott Stevens-type money.. I say win two more Cups first :D

Pay homage to the INCREDIBLE scoring goalie!!!! :-)

I saw CRASHER trip a kid on skates and then he stole the kids lunch money and slapped his mom when she came to pick him up.. All because the kid looked at his crease

He will with us, Crash. I love this guy since the World Cup of '96. That US team should've kissed his ass for helping win that tourney. Put him in Black and Red and watch everyone's opinion change!!
