Chris Russo calls Dusty Baker as General Dusty so I could not help but mock the name.

Last week, he talked about how people with dark skin can handle the heat while people with white skin can't. I have a problem with it. For one thing, his comments are no different than what ex-Dodger GM Al Campanis said about how blacks would never make great managers. Second, I like to think the player can handle the heat because of God-given talent not because of the color of the skin. You have to wonder if he lost his players after that. I know if I was a player, I would be ticked off. I recalled when George Karl made statements about how black players are not good fit to be coaches and I think he has never gained the respect of his players in Milwaukee after those statements.

What sort of "heat" are you talking about? If it's pressure then it should make no difference. If it's actual HEAT then it can make a difference.

I am so sick and tired of race being involved in topics of conversation! I hate it...My son told a black kid a few months back that he wasn't suppose to play with colored kids (where the hell he got that from is beyond me because we are far from racist or prejudice)...ANYWAYS...I straightened it out with the kids mom but she then went to my neighbor who is black and told them about what happened and ever since then (which has been a month or so) they have thought us to be a racist family. So we argued one day and she started calling me racist! I WAS LIKE WTF! Where in the world did you get that from...I hate people that play the race card...It makes me sick...AND OJ IS GUILTY! B)

Dusty meant heat as in 100 degree weather heat.

It's silly...I'm no health specialist but common sense says your environment (where you grew up and/or currently live) and not your skin color has to do with heat tolerance - i.e. someone from Florida can tolerate a 100 degree day much better than someone from Alaska.

Fine, Hasan, but then he talked about how someone from New England could not handle that heat. I like to think players do well because of their talent not because of the endurance level or the color of the skin. Dusty did made some references about skin color and I have a problem with it. If he feels that he is right, I am not sure it was the right idea to go speak out loud about it. There are times that you need to bite your tounge and that's one of them. Could you imagine the uproar if Bobby Valentine said these things?

See it's only an issue cause people MADE an issue about it.. if no one cared.. and no reporter whined and no one did TV pieces (or even threads on the internet !!) it would just go away... at least I think so

That may be so, but darker skin can tolerate the sun longer than lighter skin. That fact has nothing to do with race. Also, tolerating temperatures is different than tolerating the sun.

Dusty Baker made a stupid comment. I don't care what his race is. It's baseball not the Boston Marathon. Just last week my co-worker was called "vanilla" because she parked in a spot that someone else wanted. I don't know what race had to do with driving.

He did say this and El Chico actually posted about it in another thread like a week ago.

What ever happened to skill deciding how good you are? C'mon, maybe "scientifically" he has a point but he doesn't prove anything by saying this and what about the non-colored players on their team like Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, and Eric Karros to name a few. Oh well, what can you do.

You know that the whole thing would get blown so far out of proportion. But since it's a black guy saying it, it's ok. Kind of like blacks calling each other n!gger, but if
anyone else does it, it's considered an "N-Bomb".

Should he get canned for saying this? El Chico thinks so.

He didn't directly hurt anybody but he did make "racially insensitive" coments and chances are, if the tables were turned, that a white manager would be fired.

You know Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would make a huge stink if Bobby Valentine or Buck Showalter made those statements.

I don't think Dusty should be fired, but I hope management would tell him to bite his tounge in situation like this.

He wasn't even fined for gods sake, he deserves some type of punishment for saying something like this. What example does that set and what kind of double-standard is it showing?

It will be interesting to see how Dusty handle all of this for the rest of the season. I don't think this is going to go away anytime soon.

And another thing on Dusty, he should by no means be the manager of this NL All-Star squad. El Chico knows that he was the manager of the team in last year's world series but in El Chico's opinion he was giving up this when he switched to the Cubs and the Giants went to the world series not just Dusty.

A guy that remained on the Giants staff from last year should have been the manager OR the team that went 2nd furthest in the NL, Tony LaRussa (a great guy) and the Cardinals.

I think Felipe Alou should manage the All-Star Game. At least, he has class and wisdom and he does not judge people by race.

El Chico disagrees, Felipe Alou is a class act but, he wasn't apart of that Giants team in anyway last year so in a way he doesn't deserve it although he is a guy that would be good for the job if this was done by vote.

I think fans should vote for managers to vote for All-Star Game.
