I am really annoyed at Bud Selig for caving in to the A's demands about Zito not pitching in the ASG. Why? He got selected so he should be pitching especially since he is not hurt. No ifs, ands, or buts. I have a real problem with that.

A's management made this decision because Zito threw 100 plus pitches on saturday night and wanted him ready for the games right after the ASG. Does Clemens deserve to be their cosidering this SHOULD be his last year? Absolutely, if not then why the hell was Cal Ripken there all those years. Does Zito deserved to be removed? Absolutely not, he deserves the bid more than Clemens based on this year but Clemens is a legend. Why can't they just add one roster spot and not let Zito pitch.

I agree, El Chico. Tony Kornheiser made the same point on PTI today.

Don't get me started on Cal Ripken, El Chico thinks he helped the game with his game streak and he was a new breed of shortstop but does he deserve to be in the hall of fame based on his numbers and skill? El Chico doesn't think so but that record will get him in there.

Cal was a pretty good player for years before the streak.

What about the 4 years afterwards and all the all-star nominations he got for just being a well-known name. If he gets this treatment, so should a guy like Clemens who has been the better player at his position and has done more for the game.

Yeah. I think Clemens and Zito should both make it.

El Chico agrees but only one can and if you're Roger Clemens what do you do?

Although he didn't do it and had nothing to do with it, this spot was basically stolen from Zito and if you're Clemens do you offer it back to him even though you probably deserve a spot anyway? Complicated situation.

Yes but there's only one spot so who should it go to?

Also, they could of made Clemens an honorary captain sort of like what they did with Tony Gwynn in 2001.
