Saw Minus the Bear last night at Webster Hall in the city.
Awesome show.
'My Time'
I've been meaning to see them live for years and have yet to get around to it.
Next up for me is The Pixies in Asbury Park next weekend.

of the Devils' mascot, NJ Devil, and
of all mascots far and wide.IT IS VERY HARD TO WIN ONE STANLEY CUP, FORGET ABOUT THREE... and maybe it's high time some of you actually APPRECIATED THAT instead of treating it like it's some flipping birthright because for some random reason you rooted for the damn Devils!!!!!

I saw Weird Al in Asbury Park a couple of years ago. He played all the old stuff that I knew and had forgotten about, plus a bunch more newer stuff that only my nephew knew. Fun show. ... Does he still have the no-camera videos rule?Saw Weird Al in Albany last night. He busted out a lot of his old stuff, some expected ("Eat It", "Lasagna", "My Bologna", even "Fat", complete with the fat suit from the video), some not ("Frank's 2000-Inch TV", "Spam").

I don't know. I didn't see anyone searching for cameras at the door, but I also didn't see any cameras aside from cell phones in the theater, and nobody said anything specifically about it, so... maybe?I saw Weird Al in Asbury Park a couple of years ago. You should definitely see them next time they come around. They put on such a great show.
The guitarists rig is insane! His pedal board took 2 techs to carry out haha.
Wish I could go to the Pixies show. Saw them in 2004 in Camden. AWESOME SHOW.
Have a good time!

I only ask because they made a big deal of it when I saw him. There were a few security guys standing at the top of each section watching everyone like hawks, enforcing the no-videos rule. I snuck a few camera videos in 30-second clips, just to have for myself.I don't know. I didn't see anyone searching for cameras at the door, but I also didn't see any cameras aside from cell phones in the theater, and nobody said anything specifically about it, so... maybe?
But these days, I don't take many -- if any -- videos at concerts. Has anyone noticed how many people are snapping pictures or taking videos with their phones or digital cameras during shows these days? It finally dawned on me that all those people are spending almost the entire concert looking through their camera/phone screens rather than sitting back and watching the live action. They might as well stay home and watch it all on TV or the computer.

I noticed that too. In fact, in a concert I downloaded of One Day as a Lion (Rage Against the Machine's singer Zack de la Rocha's side project) he even said at one point between songs, "It's really cool that people want to come out and take flicks and take movies and do their thing, I ask that you be respectful of the person behind you, but more importantly is that you're here. This is happening. This is live. This is not being Skyped, it's not being Youtubed, you're here. Alright. The moment is the memory, you know what I mean?"But these days, I don't take many -- if any -- videos at concerts. Ironically, I couldn't have downloaded the performance if it weren't for some guy recording the audio but yea I don't understand how those people have any fun being there.

Ha- ha, Zack nailed it perfectly.I noticed that too. I saw Jane's Addiction at the House of Blues in A.C. last night. They sounded great. And I didn't take one picture of them. I just watched and enjoyed the show.

I'm greatly looking forward to the National show I'm going to in December because they're an amazing live band, but also because I'll be in the best spot I'll ever have been for one of their shows to get pictures (it's in a seated theater, and I'm in the second row).

I didn't mean to imply that nobody should take photos/videos at concerts. To each his own. And I sure am glad that I can go onto YouTube and see lots of videos of my favorite bands from almost any show in any city.I'm a documentarian by nature - I like being the one behind the camera taking photos (and occasionally videos).

I just meant for me personally, I was getting too caught up in trying to get the perfect photo and coolest video. When I would get home the next day, I realized I hadn't experienced the show to the fullest. I felt like even though I was there, I had missed something.
That's why the other night I decided to keep the camera in my pocket and just watch the show. I think I really did enjoy it more and I actually can remember it better. To paraphrase what Zack said pretty well, the "moment" was the "memory."

After that it's second row for The National at the Beacon Theatre in December, which will be awesome beyond words.

Only Philly club I'm familiar with is the Electric Factory and I have to believe the sound at TLA is better than the EF (which was among the worst I've ever heard).
I also ordered my tickets to see the Dropkick Murphys at the House Of Blues (Atlantic City) in March.

The other problem with the show was it started about of half hour late, while we all listening to the DJ, so they weren't able to do the entire album. Still, it was great watchign two maters at work and nice to see live music, something I haven't done in quite some time.
