I feel bad for Kovalchuk's family. They were finally able to settle down and now they have to deal with this

well, if he truly wants to be here, and they HAVE to redo the contract, it shouldn't be too hard...right?

the fact that grossman is going on the radio so quickly suggests that they are definitely filing a grievance.

and that he and Lou were prepared for this and are ready to go to war with the league.

Either that, or he will reveal his true identity, Jayavich Grossmanov, and announce that Kovy has signed with the KHL.

Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I leave power. Good. Thank you, thank you. If you vote me, I'm hot. What? Taxes, they'll be lower... son. The Democratic vote is the right thing to do Philadelphia, so do.
How do you spot risk? How do you avoid risk? And what makes it so risky?

The only change that needs to be made is for the 50% 100% rule. Salaries can only go up 100% in proceeding years and down 50% in proceeding years....sooo...

2010-2011 $6,000,000
2012-2013 $11,500,000
2013-2014 $11,500,000
2014-2015 $11,500,000
2015-2016 $11,500,000
2016-2017 $11,500,000
2017-2018 $10,500,000
2018-2019 $8,500,000
2019-2020 $6,500,000
2020-2021 $3,500,000
2021-2022 $1,750,000
2022-2023 $1,000,000
2023-2024 $550,000
2024-2025 $550,000
2025-2026 $550,000
2026-2027 $550,000

Dink....fixed and go to hell NHL....6.08 cap hit instead

some goon posted it on the rangers HF board. right under a shot of Lou, JVB, and Johnny Mac with a caption something to the effect of "Well we took the league to the cleaners..."

I love how the ranger fans are getting hard ons from this. like somehow this is going to benefit them. (more likely they're looking for an excuse to ridicule us)

That seems to be the circumvention that the league is talking about. In years 2020-21 to 21-22 Kovalchuk's salary drops from 3.5 million to .75 million. That is well over the 50% drop allowable from year to year.

this isn't the problem.

It isn't? How the hell do you know? Details weren't exactly released.

That's not how the rule works.

NOTE: this does not mean "change in salary is limited to 50% of the prior year's salary" - it's 50 percent of the lower of the first 2 years of an SPC.

because there are drops in the pronger, luongo, and savard contracts that are similar, so that cannot be the issue.

Didn't the league also say it was rejected because the contract was an attempt to "circumvent the cap" So obviously that wasn't the problem. Lou is also not that dumb.

Then why were those deals allowed? Are they not breaking the CBA?

From everything we hear, the league's view is that neither the Devils nor Kovalchuk believe that he'll play of the life of the contract. Tweaking numbers here and there won't change that. You either have to make the deal a few years shorter, or perhaps up the money paid in the last few years of the deal.
