So it will be near or at the $100M. possibly the 13/98 or 14or 15/100. just do not see the 14 or 15 years. 13 sounds more approving by the league.

Remember, there's been at least one 15 year contract already approved by the NHL. So 15 years isn't anything new to the NHL.

it sounds like the devils' main selling point is the more uniform distribution of cash through the life of the deal

The reports are saying that the new contract takes care of the problems the league has had with various proposals over the past several weeks. If it is indeed 15 years, then we have to assume that the league is OK with that amount of years. It must have been other issues (NMC / NTC, etc) that the league was having issues with.

And just another confirmation of the 15 years:
TGfireandice I too hear 15 years $100 million as approx numbers on new Kovy contract. The number of years could still be sticking point.

From what I remeber of the arbitrator ruling it was the odds of him playing given how few players have played past 40(but then again, how many players are there that have performed at Kovys level)and then the massive drop off (Maybe thats the second sticking point for Kovy, more back end money on the deal

Depends on how the money's spread out and how No-Move/No-Trade/both clauses are used.

So if there is more back end money, less obvious NMC NTC or at least ones that don't make it clear it looks like a 7 year deal at 70 mil then does that hold water.

Don't see a problem with the league accepting the 15/100. It all depends on how the remaing 5-years or the back end of this deal is structured. At $6.66 is not bad at all.
