macissac: and i still think re-entry waiving rolston is much better than losing zubrus. i would also like mottau back at that price, i don't want the team to only have 4 veteran defensemen.

That's a good point. At least we know what we're getting with mottau, he's a very serviceable 5th-6th D-man. With the additions of Volchenkov and Tallinder, we have one more quality defenseman than we did last year. Mottau won't have to play major minutes anymore

What would re-entry waiving his contract do? I haven't heard of this.

Cut his cap hit in half if a team claims him. Rolston even at 2.5 million is a risk and no team may take it. If New Jersey had a deal in place with the Islanders to claim him I would be all for it.

2.5 million for a guy who can score 20 and play the penalty kill is not insane IMO. He did have the C in Minnesota for awhile so he has to have some leadership qualities.

*I know, have of the Wild had the C under Lemaire

The NHLPA has Kovalchuk making $6 million next season.

From TG:

As one of Fire and Ice blog readers pointed out, NHLPA lists Kovalchuk's 2010-11 salary at $6 million and signing date Aug. 27.

From TG:

Would'nt it have to be an approved contract from the league for the NHLPA to list his salaray? :noclue:

Nah, it registers with the PA but will be de-registered if the contract gets rejected (TG pointed out his first contract was up there when it was first signed)

for that tag, i'd almost slap a guarantee on it that buffalo would snag him up on re-entry waivers. they wouldnt shell out 1 million for a guy who potentially could be a 20 goal scorer in kennedy, but they love the aging vertans almost as much as we used to and would chomp at the bit to get him for 2.5 million. [darcy would, the fans would hate it]

from rotoworld:
The New Jersey Devils believe the contract with Ilya Kovalchuk will stand.
GM Lou Lamoriello says that he "feels good about what we submitted" to the NHL in terms of a contract with free agent winger Ilya Kovalchuk. The NHL is now reviewing the 15-year, $100 million deal that was agreed to on Friday. The salary cap hit would be $6,666,667. While Lamoriello did not want to speculate on the NHL’s decision, he does feel good about the way things were handled. Aug. 28 - 11:47 am et

besides josefson, i like it jason. i'm repeating myself, but bringing josefson up starts his clock a year early - unless josefson is really excelling, i don't want him brought up. also i'd prefer fraser to one of taormina or eckford, but that's academic.

i'd like a guy like steve begin for the 4th line.

I made a mistake, I didn't realize Hedberg was the salary with the big bonus. Henrique's NHL salary is $587,500, he would be 300 000 cheaper then Josefson and his contract starts this year regardless so I think he would be the best option. I can't think of a way to get a respectable 3rd line center along with Mottau at 1 million. Mike Comrie is about .400 too expensive.

Well and with some time under Larry Robinson (without being traded again haha) he can be a good puck moving defenseman.
