i was thinking maybe the reason nhl has not put there seal of approval on the contract yet is because they are giving the devils time to get under the cap

The Devils have until October to get under the cap. They can be 10% over until then.

Because while it addresses concern that the player doesn't have an incentive to play to the end, it makes it very clear that the team has no incentive for the player to play to the end. The likely scenario is at the end of the deal they waive him and loan him out to a team in Russia that would take care of the additional money at the end. This would probably be cheaper than a buyout.

I think it will depend on if there is a No move at the end or a no trade. If there is a full no-move then it is in the hands of the player and he technically has the incentive to play to the end. Of course at that point he probably would waive the no move and move to a less physical league and still get his money, but there is no way the league can get into his head 12-15 years from now. A deal with a No move likely will get approved. I think just a no trade at the end will get rejected. Because there is an escape for the team. They can just easily waive (with or without his consent) him and loan him out and presumably only pay part of with it off the cap.

I understand what you're saying, but a frontload-valley-backload seems much more legitimate than just a flatout front-loaded deal a la Hossa/Luongo/Keith. At least in this case the player has an incentive to finish the deal.

I know it'll never happen, but every league should have a fan rep. The players have Fehr, the owners have Bettman, and we get shafted. I want someone speaking up for me during league meetings.

IT IS VERY HARD TO WIN ONE STANLEY CUP, FORGET ABOUT THREE... and maybe it's high time some of you actually APPRECIATED THAT instead of treating it like it's some flipping birthright because for some random reason you rooted for the damn Devils!!!!! Posted Image

even though i have a bad feeling about this, i still think it will be accepted.

although i do wish that kovalchuk could've risked 2.5 million more to spread over those last years. having it go 2-2-2-2-4.5 would be more convincing imo.

Tri, at this point we don't know what the spread is for the final 5 years. Hell, everything we know aside from 15/100 is rumor. If we assume Kypreos is correct at $2.6M average over last 3 with $4M at the end that puts us at something like $1.9M, $1.9M, $4M. You think year 11 and 12 are less than the $1.9M?

kypreos has said that the final 5 years are 10M and that the final 3 years are 2.6M average, with the last year being 4M. so if the last 3 years give us a total of 7 million, years 11 and 12 can only be a total of 3 million.

i understand relying on kypreos isn't the best - kypreos of 'kovalchuk is going to LA' fame - but he's the only one who's been able to say anything about the contract.

Again, assuming Kypreos is accurate, if the last year is 4mm, and the last three years average out to 2.6mm, and there's $10mm total in the last 5 years, then years 11 and 12 are a total of 2.2mm. Thanks, 6th grade algebra!
