No my sources look to be correct and so does TG, NJ.com, Rich Chere and Mike Mazzeo: Lou has until September 17th the start of training camp to get under the cap.

Too bad your list up there doesn't include my source, which is the CBA. The CBA states the last day of training camp.

First day of training camp makes NO sense. How would teams give players a chance to make the team if they have to worry about cap hits? What about players invited for a tryout? What is their cap hit?

i thought this over and i think (or at least i thought this morning, before i read TG and marek saying it would be done today) the league may end up doing this. by being intentionally vague, it still holds the hammer on future deals, and gets to create confusion about where the line may be drawn - executives with less brio than lamoriello (or executives with less prodding from ownership) may back down from more ambitious contracts for fear of league reprisal.

i love how the dinosaur blows at 5:00 at the NHL offices in NY and everyone scampers home - i mean, i know the traffic is murder leaving the city but unless its the trade deadline, 5:00 might as well be midnight. these guys are like bankers.
