In terms of impact, I mean who affected the organziation the most. I was talking to my family about this and it was split. I was just wondering what everyone here thinks?

I think the Devils success post lockout answers this question. I think Marty is more of the 'face' of the Devils... but Stevens had more impact in how the team played, its success etc.

I don't know.I love Scott Stevens and what he brings to the team and how he played but Marty is the face of the franchise for so long now and he did some great things.

I would have to call this one a tie since I know that Marty shaped up the team and gave us so many wins since he is playing but I know that in the playoffs Stevens absolutely carried this team and was the Best leader in the whole league.

Add Lou Lamoriello in there as well. That question is so tough I don't even want to answer it, Marty and Scott both have great leagacies.

My first instinct is to say Stevens. He set the tone for the team. When he was out of the lineup there was (and still is) a huge hole that could not be filled. Marty went down 2 seasons ago and we kept winning, but in no way shape or form can you discount what he has done for this franchise. Stevens set the tone in the playoffs, but Marty stole so many games for us. Both are legends. I think Marty's longevity will give him the biggest overall impact.

I thought Stevens too but my family says Brodeur because without him as a goalie, we wouldnt have won any cups.

Did you say without Stevens and WITH Brodeur, there are no Cups?

I thought this was a tossup, and the vote reflects it.

yea but my family thinks that a goalie is more important than defensemen. i kept arguing with them saying that without daneyko, stevens, rafalski, and niedermayer... brodeur may not have been as successful :blahblah:

I'm gonna be bold:

Without the world-class goalie and human WALL in Marty Brodeur we wouldn't be nearly has dominate as we are now. I base this theory on the fact that if we got Trevor Kidd instead...where do you think we would be? It's like "What if The Blazers close Jordan and the Bulls chose Bowie"? It wouldn't be the same team imo. But hey...I'm only 21 so what do I know? Lol.

Also, I too think a goalie is the most important piece within a hockey team.

For those of you are too young to remember...We were the total JOKE of the league (tied with Hartford) between '82 and '94 (1988 was our Cinderella year but that was easily forgotten). The St. Louis Blues tampering with Shanahan, giving us Stevens was a lifesaver to this franchise...We could easily be in Nashville right now if Lou didn't score him. Marty's a great goalie, but without Scotty, We'de be fvcked!!

Stevens is the heart and soul of the Devils. Period.

While am too young to remember and while this is true I just don't picture the Devils being "the Devils" if the had drafted Kidd instead and the Flames picked Marty first.
