Its too soon to fire the head coach
The offense is non-existant and the power play is about as useful as tits on a bull.

Again the players aren't executing, he cant do anymore than tell them what to do, unless we sign him to a deal and send him out there (at this point it might not be a bad idea).

The thing is though, hasn't our faceoff percentage been vastly improved this year over the last few years? so he must be doing something right.

That's actually what I was thinking about on the way in today... what made me think of the Minnesota Men thing.... Oats is doing his job and it's not his place to say more - not too loudly in any event. It's not polite to overstep your boundries even if you might see what's doing, you know?
Man -- ANY ideas woudl be a help at this point I'd think. But in the real world I think I'd be hesitant to actually say stuff... unless I'd tied one on and started to hold forth or something

If any of those three scenario's are really the case, it would be apparent that Lou picked the wrong coach for the job. Regardless, if they don't pull out a heaping handful of wins by thanksgiving, you gotta get a new coach - you can't let this continue through Christmas, sacrifice the 1st half of the season and have any glimmer of hope for a playoff birth.
It would really really suck that the first high 1st round pick this team has had in 20+ years ends up forfeited to the league.

They seem to lack any semblence of a system - it really just looks like a bunch of experienced guys playing pond hockey out there, they sort of know where they should be from being coached in their youth, but have no coach now giving them direction and a system - just rolling lines and rushing up ice. It's really been terrible to watch. I can give the D a little lee-way, after all, minus the injuries, at least 3 of those guys are playing in Albany, but the offense needs to have some kind of coaching direction/strategy/system to act as cohesive agent and get them all on the same page. So either 1) Johnny Mac has some system in his head that he's unable to communicate to these guys; 2) He has communicated it and they either don't buy into it or just can't execute it; or, 3) He really didn't have any system to put in place and is just winging it each night, hoping to get buy on the talent of his experienced forward group.

Our power play is just like last year. No one in front of the net, we can't shrink down the four man box. Other teams have scouted our PP and know that when the defense gets on the puck handler he usually fumble the puck and creates a turnover.

It's not Oates' fault. He only helps with the song writing and instrumentation. Sometimes he does the backing vocals.

ANYHOW...you all are getting the ball rolling -- dude is OLD. Stop even!
I had no idea how massively underrated he's been. I wikipediad him
and -- understand there are boundries that you shouldn't cross and stuff. I mean he can't do much there. he's doign what he can// Larry -- I feel like he's enjoying himself too much. Dude HAS a job to do. If anything Johnny mac's got to tell Larry he is needed to be a stronger force with the D. you want to keep Larry sane. but he can't pick and choose who he's going to coach and he can't be all nice and stuff...
When I think about it, I am beginning to see how Mac's got to operate here and he's really not so bad. I'm not sure he IS taking too long to take action.

I agree you are onto something with the M man theory. I would modify it a bit and call it the Devils Man syndrome. I believe Lou seeks out the type of player/personality that your M Man has. It is who he wants in the organization. Someone who has self discipline and self control and can play his role (or instrument in the orchestra to use Lou's old cliche). That's actually what I was thinking about on the way in today... what made me think of the Minnesota Men thing.... Oats is doing his job and it's not his place to say more - not too loudly in any event. It's not polite to overstep your boundries even if you might see what's doing, you know?

Would you say, stoic, unemotional, practical etc...? The problem is..there is no fire or passion in these types of people. The second oboe usually doesn't get upset if the 3rd flute comes in late on the 9th measure...it's simply not his problem. That's what this team looks like right now....go out, play my shift and go to the bench. Lather, rinse, repeat, end of game.

We haven't forfeited it yet (right?!). We don't have to decide that until right after the Cup final.
